TARIFF ELIMINATION ON COMMON CONSUMER PRODUCTS

The Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement would help 2.0 million Virginia families by lowering the cost of the consumer goods they buy. Prices of merchandise imported from TPP countries currently reflect hidden taxes (tariffs) that are often quite high, but passage of TPP would make products that meet the rules of origin more affordable.

Furthermore, passing the TPP would:

Ensure safer transactions for Virginia online shoppers through greater protection of personal information.

Provide greater opportunity for Virginia retail businesses to quickly move products from TPP countries into the state and onto their shelves.

Guard against the sale of counterfeit goods to Virginia shoppers.

Support ethical and safe production of goods making their way from TPP countries onto Virginia shelves.

Trade supports 181,000 Virginia retail jobs. Passing the TPP agreement would help grow the Virginia workforce, raise wages and further help families in the state.

Prices of merchandise imported from TPP countries currently reflect hidden taxes (tariffs) that are often quite high, but passage of TPP would make products that meet the rules of origin more affordable.
