Transformation of the World

Presented by

Mr. Edward Rodriguez, Ms. Rachel Schenk,

Introduction

• The MST Inquiry Unit will develop a strong foundation on Earth’s Changing Surface. Students will acquire knowledge on the Rock Cycle, Erosion, Earthquakes, as well as Volcanoes. These hands on experiences will allow students to have a comprehension of the unique parts of the Earth.

Outline of Unit: Holistic Web

Rock Cycle: Rock N’ Roll

• Bloom’s Taxonomy: Knowledge

• Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence: Visual and Verbal/Linguistic

• Technology: Web Filamentality

Rock N’ Roll

• What is a rock?

• How does the rock cycle change the earth’s surface?

• What are the factors of the rock cycle?

Classification of Rocks: Oh, Where Does My Rock Belong?

• Bloom’s Taxonomy: Comprehension

• Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence: Naturalist and Logical-Mathematical

• Pet Manipulative: Grouping of Rocks

Oh, Where Does My Rock Belong?• What are the different

types of rocks?

• How do we classify these rocks?

• Where can we find these different types of rocks?

Erosion: What types do we have?

• Bloom’s Taxonomy: Application

• Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence: Verbal/Linguistic, Logical/Mathematical

• Experiment on Types of Erosion

A rock is… The rock cycle changes the earth’s surface. The factors of the rock cycle

What is erosion? How many types of erosions do exist?

Erosion is the process by which the surface of the Earth gets worn down.Five types of erosion exist.

Different types of rocksClassification of rocksArea in which we find these different types of rocks

What kind of erosions can we experience? What does erosion affect in the environment?

Wind, water, and chemical erosions.Air quality, plant growth and water quality.

Experiment: Types of Erosion

• How many types of erosions do you think exist?

• What do you think erosion processes have negative effects on?

• What types of erosion did we experience?

Erosion: What happened here?• Bloom’s Taxonomy:

Intelligence: Verbal/Linguistic, Intrapersonal

• Scavenger Hunt: Erosion in Nature

Scavenger Hunt:Erosion in Nature

• What is erosion? Erosion

• Name types of erosion. Wind erosion

• What does wind erosion physically remove from fields?

• What is acid rain?

Earthquakes: Shake, Rattle, N’ Roll• Bloom’s Taxonomy:

Shake, Rattle, N’ Roll

• What are earthquakes?• What are the different

faults?• Do you think earthquakes

are important? Explain why.

Volcanoes Experiment

Volcanoes: Oh My!

• What are volcanoes?

• What are the different types of volcanoes?

• Do you think that we can prevent volcanoes from creating and erupting? http://video.google.com/videoplay?
