Remember you should always try to access the cheapest form of transport if you are hoping to be reimbursed though the TDAE scheme. However students are reminded that their personal safety comes first.

Needlesstosay,noteveryjourneygoesaccordingtoplanespeciallywhenitcomestopublictransport.Unforeseenissuessuchascancellationstoservicescanbeparticularlyproblematic.
However,ifwhenresearchingpublictransportoptionsforgettingtoyourplacement,youdiscoverthatthereisaproblemeithergettingthereontimeorgettinghomeafterwards,pleaseconsiderthefollowing:

Usingyourownvehicletotraveltoyourplacement?Google Maps and The AA canbeusedforbothplanningyourrouteandtocheckontraveltimes,roadworksandthelatesttrafficnewsregardingyourroute.Parking may be available for students at the main teaching hospitals in our circuit.
York Teaching Hospitals AparkingpermitcanbeobtainedforuseatYork,ScarboroughandBridlingtonhospitals.
Thisreducesthecostofparkingbutdoesnotrenderitfreeofcharge.
PleaseaskinStudentandAcademicSupportServiceoremaildohs-student-services-group@york.ac.uk toobtaintheformwhichisaccompaniedbyinstructionsonhowyoucangetthepermit.
Harrogate District HospitalStudentsmaypurchaseaparkingpermitthatreducesthecostofparkingatHarrogateDistrictHospital.Again,thisreducesthecostofparkingbutdoesnotrenderitfreeofcharge.
1. Ourpracticepartnersarewell-awareofthedifficultiessomestudentswillencounterusingpublictransportwhenitcomestoearlystarttimesandlatefinishtimes.Studentsareadvisedtodiscusstheirdifficultieswithpracticestaffandnegotiatetheirstart/finishtimes.
2. Sometimesitmaymakemoresensetotaketemporaryaccommodationclosertoyourplacement.Forinstance,therearesomeaffordableaccommodationoptionsinbothHarrogateandScarboroughbutpleasebearinmindthatwhenclaimingforreimbursementfortemporaryaccommodation,youmustsupplyproperreceipts.Currently£55isthemaximumyoucanbereimbursedforonenight’sstayincommercialaccommodation,£25pernightfornon-commercialaccommodation.
3. Ifyouopttostayintemporaryaccommodation,trytomakesurethatitiscloseenoughtoyour placementsoastoruleoutanyserviceissueswithpublictransport.
4. Ifyouareworkinganearlyshift,itmaymakesensetostayovernightinyourtemporaryaccommodationthenightbefore.
