• Environment– Urbanization: Relatively low 5.4% but expected to reach 30% by 2020 (MoFA)

• The Context Continued– Trees are primary sources for urban population survival

• What has been done?– Trees planting campaigns: annual since the Ethiopian

Millennium– Government-led Initatives– Addis Ababa City Government, NGOs, Kebeles and with limited

private sector participation

• Objectives• To ensure that the Addis Ababa City Government develops and

institutes proper post-tree planting campaign care for seedlings planted every year in the ten sub-cities of Addis Ababa within 18 months.

• Objectives• To enhance Addis Ababa based private companies already

involved in environment entrepreneurship participation in restoring the city’s tree resources by annually contributing approximately US$ 40,000 by mid-2016.

• Objectives– To increase Addis Ababa’s public participation in tree planting

and post tree planting care efforts within each sub-city through edir/mahber leadership as a result of understanding and owning the purpose of reforesting Addis Ababa city by late 2016.
