INTRODUCTION -Tridax procumbence is a

widespread weed, commonly known as coat button in english, ekdandi or kambarmodi in marathi, ghamra in hindi and jayantiveda in sanskrit

Botanical classification: Kingdom: Plantae Division: Magnoliophyta Class: Magnoliopsida Order: Asterales Family: Asteraceae Tribe: Heliantheae Genus: Tridax Species: T. Procumbens

ABSTRACTTridax procumbence is a species of flowering

plant in a daisy family. It occurs in tropical as well as subtropical regions,in all the seasons.

It exhibits antiseptic, insecticidal and hair growth promoting properties.More commonly the plant leaves are used to check haemorrhage from cuts, brucies, wounds.

It also reported to have various pharmacological effects and antimicrobial activity against bacteria, hence prevent the infection and stimulate wound healing.

KEYWORDS

Tridax procumbence,blood coagulation,aspartic acid,marker enzymes,alanine transamylase.

CHEMICAL COMPOSITION AND THEIR PHYSIOLOGICAL RESPONSE.

1. Stigmasterol -antiinflametory property2. Betasitosterol-antiinflametory property3. Calcium-required for coagulation factors to

bind to phospholipids.4. Phospholipids-required for tenase and

prothrombinase to function.5. Marker enzymes –Helps in conversion of

fibrinogen to fibrin. (aspartate, transaminase, lactate dehydrogenase, alkaline phosphatase)

MECHANISM OF BLOOD COAGULATION

Blood clotting comes under the concept of haemostasis. It is the major defence mechanism against the blood loss and occurs due to different substances mainly glycoproteins synthesized by the liver.

It involves two pathways A)Extrinsic Pathway :It is the initial process in the

clotting and involves factors that are not present in the blood.

B)Intrinsic Pathway :It involves the series of reaction participated by the factors present in the blood.

The two pathways are not independent but they are coupled together to convert protrombin to thrombin and fribrinogen to fibrin clot.

Important factors responsible for blood coagulation.

1. Fibrinogen:forms clot2. Prothrombin:it activates protein c and platelets.3. Tissue factor:co factor of prothrombin4. Calcium:helps to bind the coagulation factor to

phospholipids.5. Christmas factor:forms tenase complex with

antihaemophillic factors6. Hageman factor :activates plasma protein.7. High mol.Wt kininogen factor :support activation of

hageman’s factor8. Staurt prower factor: forms prothrmbinase complex with

labile factor9. Generation factor: precipitates in final common clotting

pathway.10. Fibrin stabilizing factor: carried out cross links of fibrins.

MATERIAL REQUIRED

Sterile dry powder of Tridax procumbence, fresh blood sample without anticoagulant, test tubes, stopwatch, etc.

METHOD

1. Take 2 ml of fresh blood sample in two test tubes without adding any anticoagulant.

2. Take one test tube as control and other as test sample.

3. Add 200mg of sterile dry powder of Tridax procumbence in test sample.

4. Do not add Tridax procumbence powder in control.

5. Note coagulation time of both samples.

OBSERVATION

Test sample clots earlier than control.

RESULT

Dry powder of Tridax procumbence helps in faster blood coagulation

CONCLUSION

Tridax procumbence have great medicinal properties and can be used for –

1. Wound healling2. Haemophillic disorders3. Bleeding disorders4. Antiinflamatory property5. Primary source of treatment in tribal

areas where medical supervision is not available.
