AA mmeessssaaggee ffrroomm oouurr PPrreessiiddeenntt…… ood day everyone,
With the conclusion of our major events for
2014 we turn our attention to the year-end
accounting, the Christmas Market, and
finalizing our plans for changing the MRAS
Board to a Policy Governing Board. This move is well
underway and should help refocus the Board while ensuring
that the day to day operations are run very smoothly.
If you are, or if you know someone who might be, interested
in being on the MRAS Board, I encourage you to talk to
myself, or any of our current Board members. We will be
happy to discuss the current and future focus of the Board
with you. This is your opportunity to help guide MRAS into
the coming years ensuring this important part of our
agricultural community continues for many years to come.
Our plans to upgrade our water plant are well under way.
Thanks to tremendous efforts from our Golf Tournament
Committee and to all those that took the time to golf on a
not so pleasant day, we raised $20,000 to put towards the
plant upgrade. By topping this up to $30,000 we plan to
request a matching amount from the Alberta Government,
which should allow us to complete the upgrade.
During the summer we had our Office Assistant do a
detailed review of our various membership and rental fees
versus other similar facilities. This review has given us a
really good understanding of where our fees sit and the
value we offer to our membership in relation to those
around us.
What we have found is that MRAS offers extremely good
value for our General Individual and Family Memberships,
and that our Arena Memberships and rental rates are very
competitive with other similar facilities. For example, the
average 2014 family membership to other facilities is $94
per year while an MRAS membership is only $44 per year.
MRAS offers free admission to our Farmers’ Market, free
admission to all our major events, rental discounts, and a
vote or say in how the society is run. Others simply offer a
vote and rental discounts. As a result of this review we feel
an increase to our Individual and Family Memberships is
warranted. The arena and rental rates will remain as they
are but will be reviewed regularly to be sure they remain
competitive.
Please note that the 2015 memberships are ready to be
purchased now and any existing member, who purchases
their memberships before December 1st
2014, will receive
their memberships at 2014 rates. The 2015 membership
rates are posted in this addition of Track Watch.
I hope you all enjoy a long mild fall.
See you around the Track,
Malcolm Sills
MRAS President

AAnnootthheerr MMaarrkkeett SSeeaassoonn iiss CCoommiinngg ttoo aann EEnndd e have had an incredible 2014 Farmers’ Market season.
Another season has gone by, but many vendors remain
the same and customers continue to be loyal to all the
local farmers and artisans that call The Millarville Farmers’ Market
home.
It’s hard to believe that our season is nearly over. It has been such a
fantastic summer; I look forward to the market coming alive each
and every Saturday morning. Our weather Gods seemed to have
blessed us with sunny, dry days almost every market and event this
year! We couldn’t have done it any better.
With its success, come so many people to thank. A big thank you to all of the pleasant, hard-working farmers, our food artisan vendors and their enthusiasm, and all of the brilliantly creative artistic talents of the Millarville Farmers’ Market. You keep our market so unique! Thank you all for your commitment, dedication and friendliness this season.
Thank you to all of the staff and volunteers that help with grounds maintenance and table preparation each week, keeping the facility in tip top form, and the advertising and market magazine campaign, all the vendor billing and managing all of the market day inquiries.
High fives go out to our community volunteers and user groups that spent lengthy, sometimes frosty, mornings at the gate collecting our market admission fees. Thank you to the Board of Directors and Market Committee for your support, your encouragement, and your suggestions.
And of course, to all of our loyal patrons, thank you we cannot do this without your continuous support.
There was an abundance of pleasure for me this summer with the preparation and organizing of the Millarvile Farmers’ Market, I am absolutely looking forward to doing it all over again next year!
See you at the Millarville Christmas Market November 7th, 8th &9th!

We never really anticipated September 8, 2014 as being the first snowfall of the coming winter - but the flakes were falling as we all came off the fairway at the Turner Valley Golf Club to enjoy our lunch banquet. Regardless of the terrible weather everyone who registered enjoyed a day on the frosty greens. After all, it's Southern Alberta and we all have come to expect a bit of strange weather and have adapted to it just fine!
Over 60 of MRAS supporters gathered in the misty morning for a day on the links in support of MRAS' water treatment facility upgrade for a round of golf, lunch banquet and auction. What a result! With the help of our supports the MRAS has made considerable headway in being able to fund this required project.
We of course couldn't have done this without the help of our Sponsors, Donors, Participants, Volunteers, and Committee! Thank you to all who participated and we look forward to seeing you at next year’s event, hopefully on a more seasonably warm day.
Thank you to our generous sponsors & prize donors, without your
contributions, we would not have been able to put on such wonderful
and successful event. Each of these businesses and individuals helped us
towards our fundraising goal for our first year event, and with these funds
the MRAS will be able to do the required upgrades to our water
treatment facility.

Fall has officially arrived and has reminded me that Christmas Market is on its way. My
team and I are working on various projects to prepare for our largest annual event. We
are also working diligently to get the Racetrack ready for winter as well.
Our early September snow took down a lot of branches and debris around the grounds.
Thank you to Myrna Mckay & Rory Nicholson for working so diligently at removing all
the fallen branches. The creek bank stabilization project that the MD is doing on our
grounds, is in its final phases of completion. We are all hoping it will make a big
difference in flood season for years to come.
The indoor arena will once again be a busy place to ride, so please ensure you renew
your memberships promptly. We will continue with the posted grooming schedule on
the calendar to ensure that members enjoy the facility. Please be courteous to your
fellow members, remove any equipment you have used at the end of your ride, and
pick up any manure from the parking lot and arena.
