Uniquepartnershipwillpromotesustainabilitytrainingforpharmacists
Philadelphia,PA,andReston,VA: UniversityoftheSciences (USciences)andPracticeGreenhealth
(PGH)announcedtodaythattheyhaveestablishedafirst-of-itskindpartnershipto
developandpromotesustainabilitytrainingforpharmacists,pharmacystudentsandrelated
professionals.Amongotherthings,USciencesandPGHwillpartnertodeveloptrainingmodulesthat
willincreasesustainabilityknowledgeandpracticesinbothinstitutionalandcommunitypharmacies
acrossthecountry.
“Inthisendeavor,we’reproudtopartnerwithUniversityoftheSciences,ahighlyrespectedinstitution,foundedin1821asPhiladelphiaCollegeofPharmacy,thenation’sfirstschoolof
pharmacy,”saidAnnaGilmoreHall,ExecutiveDirectorofPracticeGreenhealth.“Pharmaciesdeal
everydaywithanumberofissuesthattouchuponsustainability,includingtheproperdisposalof
pharmaceuticals.Withhundredsofthousandsofpharmacistsworkingacrossthecountry,this
partnershiprepresentsawonderfulopportunitytoextendsustainablepracticestoyetanother
sectorofthehealthcareindustry.”
PartoftheUSciencesandPGHpartnershipincludesdevelopingamethodologyforassessingthe
effectivenessofsustainabilitytrainingforpharmacists.Thegroupswillalsoassessthefeasibilityof
similarcourseofferingstopharmacystudentsatUSciences.PracticeGreenhealthandUniversityof
Sciencewillalsoencouragecollaborativeandcooperativeresearchactivitiesthatsupportthe
developmentofeducationalprogramsrelatingtopharmacistsandsustainability.

practice,”saidDr.AndrewPeterson,deanofUSciences’MayesCollegeofHealthcareBusinessand
Policy.“Thispartnershipwilladdthemissingingredients—educationandtraining—sothatcurrent
andfuturepharmacistscanmakeapositiveimpactontheenvironment.”
