UNISA LEADERSHIP PROGRAM 2015
INTRODUCTION
The University of South Australia pleased to announce the expansion of the UniSA Leadership Program for 2015. Under the
banner of the UniSA Leadership Program, students will be offered the opportunity to participate in one of four separate
leadership development opportunities in 2015. The programs offered to UniSA students in 2015 are as follows:

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
Each of the programs has a range of objectives that students will strive for throughout the duration. The three programs below
may be seen as a progression:
Perfect Pitch is a series of workshops offered throughout the year on a range of topics that will assist students to
develop their professional skills. Any student can apply for as many or few workshops as they desire, however please
note that places are usually limited.
First year students gaining a grounding in the skills and characteristics of an effective leader through the ASPIRE
program;
UNITE is a more in depth journey into discovery of self, utilising strengths as a leader and working effectively with
others;
LEAD in a final step in the Leadership journey for students who have completed the SLP (UNITE), participants will gain
an in depth insight into their strengths and weaknesses, learn to manage difficult situations and the performance of
others and implement your leadership skills in a real-life situation.

ASPIRE PROGRAM
The ASPIRE program is offered to first year undergraduate students of the University of South Australia.
Objectives
At the conclusion of the ASPIRE program students will have developed the following skills and experience:
Working effectively in a team;
Problem solving and initiative;
An understanding of their personal strengths;
Enhanced employability or “soft” skills sought by employers;
Demonstrated ability to reflect on their learning and development.
Applications
Applications open Monday 23rd
February 2015 and close at 9:00am on Monday 30th
March.
Participants
Up to 120 students will be offered a position in the 2015 program. All participants will be required to attend the Introductory
Session on Wednesday 8th
April 2015.
Requirements
The complete the program and receive the ASPIRE Award, participants must:
Attend the half-day ASPIRE Activity Day
Complete the VIA Strengths Profile and Foundations of Leadership Day
Attend a Problem Solving and Creativity Workshop
Participate in the online discussion on the UniSA Learnonline portal
Volunteer at least 10 hours at a UniSA Club or Community Organisation
Attend at least 2 Perfect Pitch Workshops and 2 Inspire UniSA Seminars

Optional Components
Perfect Pitch Workshops
Participants will need to attend a number of Perfect Pitch workshops to accrue enough points to complete the program.
Inspire Seminars
A series of Inspire Seminars will be offered throughout the year and participants will also be able to attend these events to
earn points for the program. The seminars will be designed around themes related to leadership including resilience, influence
and personal development.
TEDx UniSA
There are plans to conduct a TEDx UniSA event towards the end of the year. This will be an outstanding opportunity for
students to hear inspiring leadership from a wide range of fields. An event not to be missed which will also count towards
completion points.
PERFECT PITCH WORKSHOPS
Perfect Pitch is a series of workshops offered throughout the year on a range of topics that will assist students to develop their
professional skills. Any student can apply for as many or few workshops as they desire, however please note that places are
usually limited.
Students can keep up to date with upcoming workshops by joining the Perfect Pitch group on the USASA Clubs page
(http://usasa.sa.edu.au/Clubs/Club.aspx?CID=1589). Workshops will be posted through this page and students can register and
pay for those where a small fee is charged.
The Perfect Pitch series will include a range of workshops throughout 2015 which may include:

UNITE PROGRAM
UNITE is offered to all UniSA students although it is more specifically targeted at 2nd
year undergraduates and beyond, first
year students and postgraduate students are eligible to apply. Please note that although students may apply for more than one
program, they may only participate in one of the programs offered during a 12 month period (i.e. first students may apply for
both ASPIRE and UNITE, but may only participate in one of the two programs in
a given year).
Objectives
At the conclusion of UNITE, students will have developed the following skills and
experience:
An understanding of leadership versus management;
In depth understanding of the concept of self-leadership;
Ability to effectively communicate and form and utilise appropriate
network connections;
Work effectively in Leadership teams;
Demonstrated ability to reflect on their learning and development.
Applications
Applications open Friday 28th
November 2014 and close at 9:00am on Monday
2nd
February 2015.
Participants
Up to 30 students will be offered a position in the 2015 program. All participants
will be required to attend the Introductory Session on Tuesday 10th
March 2015.
Requirements
The complete the program and receive the UNITE Award, participants must:
Attend the Introductory Session
Complete the persolog Personality Factor (DISC) profile and attend the workshop
Attend the Leadership Camp Preparation Session
Complete the Realise2 Profile Questionnaire
Attend the 3 day Leadership Camp at Nunyara in Belair
Attend the Project Management Session
Attend the Mid-Program Presentation
Attend the Reflection Session
Participate in the online discussion on the UniSA Learnonline portal
Attend at least 2 Inspire UniSA Seminars

LEAD PROGRAM
LEAD is an invitation-only sequel to UNITE and previous editions of the UniSA Student Leadership Programs (including
Experience Leadership and the 2014 Leadership Program). Students from previous intakes of the Leadership Program will be
invited to expand their knowledge and experience in leading others through mentoring roles while being exposed to workplace
and leadership specific professional development which will have them ready to take on the challenge of leading others in any
field of employment.
Objectives
At the conclusion of LEAD, students will have developed the following skills and experience:
An in-depth understanding of personal strengths and weaknesses;
Knowledge of conflict styles and an ability to manage conflict situations effectively;
Managing difficult conversations and providing effective feedback;
Manage the performance of others in a workplace situation;
Be an effective leader of others in a workplace situation.
Applications
Applications will be by invitation only. Selection process will be determined by the number of students willing to participant.
Participants
A maximum of 15 students will be offered a position in the 2015 program. All participants will be required to attend the
Introductory Session in early February 2015.
Requirements
The complete the program and receive the LEAD Award, participants must:
Attend the Introductory Session
Complete the Hogan Profiling Tool and attend the workshop
Complete the Kilmann Conflict Profiling Tool and attend the workshop
Attend workshops on Difficult Conversations and Providing Feedback
Complete a Mentor Training Day
Attend 4 Perfect Pitch Workshops from the following streams:
o Enhance your Professional Toolkit
o Club Development Workshops
Mentor a working group of students from UNITE or another program identified internally or externally to UniSA.

SELECTION GUIDELINES (ALL PROGRAMS)
Students nominating for any of the listed programs should be able to demonstrate capacity and potential in:
Leadership: The ability to help determine team direction; set a positive example for others, influence others by using
relevant logic and data, sensitively engage with and empower others, take the lead in creating a motivating
environment.
Teamwork: The ability to improve team performance by demonstrating positive behaviour, introducing your own
ideas, supporting, acknowledging, assisting and providing constructive feedback on the contribution of others;
assertively confronting negative behaviour; help the team to stay on task.
Persistence: The ability to stay on task, maintain motivation, uphold a positive attitude and achieve outcomes
regardless of challenges and setbacks.
Adaptability: The ability to work with a range of individuals by compromising or modifying behaviour and able to
provide a positive example in upholding organisation values and set aside self-interest where necessary.
Community Mindedness: An interest and commitment to contribute to a cohesive, sustainable society.
The application process will also seek evidence of:
Strong academic performance;
Commitment to actively participate in all aspects of the program;
Commitment to personal development and growth;
Commitment to contribute to a building a stronger UniSA Community.

COMPLETION CEREMONY
The final part of the program will involve participants, staff, mentors and family/friends being invited to a Presentation Night,
where participants will be publically acknowledged for their achievements.
It is anticipated that this event form a part of a larger event celebrating achievements of a wide range of students across the
University for various student experience and extra-curricular achievements.

Students wishing to apply for the ASPIRE, UNITE or LEAD programs will need to complete the online application form available
at this address.

Applications for UNITE and LEAD will close on Monday 2nd
February and applicants will be contacted shortly afterwards with
the outcome of their application.
Applications for ASPIRE will open on Monday 23rd
February and close Monday 30th
March.
The application forms will remain accessible throughout 2015 and students may apply for the 2016 intake at any time after the
2015 closing date.
