According to projections by the Department of Statistics Malaysia, the number of people aged 65 years and above in Malaysia will triple from 2.0 million today to more than 6.0 million by 2040. This is significant, as an ageing population generally indicates an increase in health problems including musculoskeletal disorders. This plus the general increase in awareness among Malaysians has placed a demand for trained physiotherapist especially those holding a degree. In the very near future even diploma holders will be expected to obtain a degree in order to practice physiotherapy in Malaysia.
