Some Greek Heroes Are

Hercules

PerseusWho went on a long journey to slay Medusa

Hercules was important because

● He had attributes of being both the most famous and beloved hero in ancient times.

● He was honored in temples everywhere around Greece and Rome

● As a man Hercules was the strongest person ever known and when he died he was offered to be a God for all his heroic actions.

● He locked his wife Danae up in a tower so he was absolutely certain that he would have no son.

● Danae was sad but a shower of gold started raining down on her lap and made a child appear

● When Acrisius went up the tower to see what was going on he found a baby boy laying on Danae's lap, she said she named him Perseus.

● Acrisius was so angry that he put Danae and Perseus into a large chest and threw them out to sea where they would die.

● But Perseus and Danae survived and Perseus set out for a journey with Pegasus to kill Medusa after his mother died.

The Creation of The World/ Greek Myth

● Gaea, Uranus, and Chronos were involved in this myth

● In the beginning there was nothing but destruction and chaos. Then from a different dimension Erebus, the place where death and Night occurs came. Everything else was blank, lifeless, silent, darkness, and empty.

● But then love was unexpectedly created and brought the beginning of order. From love started light and Day and because of sudden arrival from light and Day the Earth appeared.

● Later a woman named Gaea gave birth to Uranus in the heavens. With Uranus at her side they produced the 3 Cyclopes, the 3 Hecatoncheires, and the 12 Titans.

● But Uranus turned evil and imprisoned the Hecatoncheires by shoving them into secret places of the Earth, Gaea's womb. This infuriated Gaea and she wanted to get revenge on Uranus by getting her children to attack him.

● None of them had enough courage to do it except the youngest Titan Chronos. He was successful in defeating his father and took over for him.
