Uppsala - the University City

Uppsala is the oldest University in Sweden and all of the Nordic

countries, founded in 1477.

Uppsala is Sweden’s fourth largest city with a population of 200 000

inhabitants. Unique cultural treasures and an exciting history are to be

found in the city of knowledge and inspiration. Uppsala has retained its

small-town charm while offering a big city’s selection of shops,

restaurants and other entertainment. Uppsala is located 40 minutes north

of Stockholm. Uppsala can easily be reached from Arlanda airport.

HISTORICAL ATTRACTIONS

Uppsala has many historical attractions. Among the most famous are:

• Uppsala Cathedral the largest cathedral in Scandinavia.

• One of Sweden’s eldest Botanical Gardens

• A unique Anatomical Theatre built in the 1600’s

• The Linnaeus Garden

Linnaeus is one of the most famous Uppsala University professors ever.

Linnaeus created the system for classifying and naming nature, and the

foundation of his system is still in use today throughout the scientific

world. ‘God created the world, and Linnaeus categorised it’ has become

an adage.

The Conference will take place at Blåsenhus. Blåsenhus, one of the newest campuses within Uppsala

University is located in the area with the very same name. You can find Blåsenhus opposite the Uppsala castle. The Blåsenhus area has a historical past that goes back 350 years. Blåsenhus is light, airy and with many areas for the students to study. There are also possibilities to study outside with the wireless network being accessible outside

About Blåsenhus

Friday 20th April 2007 at 2pm the work began to build Blåsenhus, a campus as big as

25 000 m². You can meet future teachers, human resources specialists, behavioural

scientists and psychologists if you visit Blåsenhus. Some training and education for the

universities own staff is also taking place here in Blåsenhus. The official opening was on

Thursday 11th march 2010.
