AdisgruntledformeremployeeofaVirginiaTVstationstalkedandambushedanewscrewduringaliveinterviewWednesdaymorningbeforeopeningfire,killingareporterandphotographerandwoundingthewomanbeinginterviewed.

VesterLeeFlanaganII,41,whowentbythenameBryceWilliamswhileworkingatthestation,WDBJ,hasbeenidentifiedasthesuspect.HisnamewasinitiallyreportedasLesterLeeFlanagan.

Flanaganshothimselfafterbeingconfrontedbypolice,WHSVreports.Hewastakentothehospitalanddiedatabout1:25p.m.

ThegunmanopenedfireduringaliveinterviewwithamemberofthelocalChamberofCommerce.CameramanAdamWard,27,andreporterAlisonParker,23,ofWDBJ7TV,werekilled.Thewomanbeinginterviewed,VickiGardner,wasalsoshotandwounded,theRoanokeTimesreports.Sheisinsurgeryafterbeingshotintheback.GardneristheexecutivedirectorattheSmithMountainLakeRegionalChamberofCommerce.

HewaslaterconfrontedbypoliceinFauquierCounty,aboutthreehoursawayfromwheretheshootingoccurred.

Theshootingwasalsobroadcastliveontheair.Thatvideoisbelow,andagain,isdisturbing:

ABCNewssaiditreceiveda23-pagefaxfromsomeonenamedBryceWilliamspriortotheshooting.Thecontenthasnotbeenrevealed,andABCsaidithassharedthefaxwithpolice.

Theshootinghappenedatabout6:45a.m.VirginiaStatePolicesaidhisvehiclewasspottedonInterstate66andtriedtomakeatrafficstop.

“Thesuspectvehiclerefusedtostopandspedawayfromthetrooper.Minuteslater,thesuspectvehicleranofftheroadandcrashed,”statepolicesaidinastatement.“Thetroopersapproachedthevehicleandfoundthemaledriversufferingfromagunshotwound.Heisbeingtransportedtoanearbyhospitalfortreatmentoflife-threateninginjuries.
