Projeto ATLAS-B Desenvolvimento e Fundeamento de Protótipo
Brasileiro da bóia Atlas
TAO/Triton Array
Development of the Tropical Atmosphere Ocean (TAO) array was motivated by the 1982-1983 El Nino event, the strongest of the century up to that time, which was neither predicted nor detected until nearly at its peak. With support from NOAA's Equatorial Pacific Ocean Climate Studies (EPOCS) program, PMEL began development of the ATLAS (Autonomous Temperature Line Acquisition System) mooring.
O Projeto PIRATA
PIRATA network status:
Maintained by Brazil: 8 Atlas buoys
Maintained by France : 6 Atlas buoys
+ At 23°W-Equator : surface ADCP mooring since 2001
Maintained by USA : 4 Atlas buoys : 2 deployed in 2006,
at 4N & 11N/23W, 2 deployed in 2007, at 20N/23W & 38W

O ATLAS-B

SST SSS
Catarina, the first hurricane in the S. Atlantic
Changes in the SW Atlantic?
There are evidences of
an increasing trend in SST and SSS in the western subtropical South Atlantic
Are these changes due to the increase in the Agulhas Leakage or are they caused locally by the changes in the wind?
What are the feedbacks of these ocean properties changes?

The INCT-MC-Ocan includes a program
of monitoring the SW Atlantic with repeat
hydrography, currentometry, wave gauges
and an Atlas buoy entirely constructed
in Brazil.
