Mission
To provide adequate opportunities for the professional and career development of teachers in higher education system within the framework of knowledge society and to inculcate values, motivation and the skills in their art of teaching.
To provide opportunity for the teachers to update their knowledge in the subject, technology and acquire new methods of curricular transactions in each area of their chosen fields.
To enhance competencies, skills, abilities, knowledge, efficiency and motivation of teachers, administrators and non-teaching staff so that they can play an enabling role in the development of students, not only in terms of imparting knowledge and skills to them but also in their counseling, developing critical and innovative thinking, research, consultancy and extension work.

Formulate, organize, monitor and evaluate orientation
programmes and refresher courses for college and university
teachers, senior administrators and non-teaching staff based
on the broad guidelines;
Identify resource persons in various fields of specializations for
conducting the orientation programmes and refresher courses,
and familiarize such resource persons with the philosophy and
guidelines for the programmes/ courses;
Set up a documentation centre-cum-library for reference and
resource materials necessary for the programmes/course;
Produce specially designed materials required for effective
implementation of the programmes/courses;

Introduce the teachers to new methods and innovations in higher education delivery
Bring out publications relevant for enhancing the teaching and research capabilities of teachers;
Conduct capability enhancement programmes for non academic staff so as to strengthen the teaching learning environment.

IT OFFERS 65 COURSES IN DIVERSE DISCIPLINES OF SCIENCE, ARTS, HUMANITIES AND TECHNOLOGY.
ACCREDITED BY UGC-NAAC AS AN A-GRADE UNIVERSITY IN 2002.
RE-ACCREDITED IN AUGUST, 2011 AT A GRADE WITH A CGPA OF 3.11 ON A FOUR-POINT SCALE FOR FURTHER FIVE YEARS.
HAS ESTABLISHED TWO SATELLITE CAMPUSES IN SOUTH KASHMIR (ANANTNAG) & NORTH KASHMIR (DELINA BARAMULLA)
