Tony are excited about being placed in new story settings around the world each time they move to a different level. As Sebastian notes, “When you go into different places, the program shows different ani-mals and areas from a map.” Learning and progress are cele-brated with colorful program certificates each time a stu-dent increases a level. Sergio says this is his favorite part!
With internet access, students can even practice in Core 5 and Power Up from home. Ask your child’s teacher for a letter with specific login information today! ~Dr. Lynne Bailey, Interventionist
Dear Parents/Guardians, Over the last nine weeks, Gon-zales students have been using Lexia Core 5 (PreK-5) and Pow-er Up (6-8) Reading, two fun computer-based literacy pro-grams that have helped mil-lions of students (http://www.lexialearning.com). The activities in Core 5 support and build on our classroom curricu-lum and focus on developing reading skills in key areas: pho-nological awareness, phonics, structural analysis, fluency, vocabulary, grammar and com-prehension.
Nearly all of the more than 400 Gonzales students
are enjoying learning with Core 5 and Power Up, and 15% of these students have already moved from beginning place-ment into In and Above Grade Level Material in a fairly short time. Third grade students Mariah, Yanelie, Alyssa, Serenity, and Dominic like that, “Core 5 is fun and it tells you a lot of things you didn’t know.” Gabbi, Damian, Julian, and Jordan say they have learned about suffixes, new words, rules for spelling, and different word meanings since starting the program in October. The activities and visuals in Core 5 are also engaging for students. Anthony, Sebastian, Liv, and
