VOLUME XXXIV, NUMBER 1 SPRING 2018

KEVIN DANIEL, CHE, CHFM

Lou Holtz was a wonderful opening motivational speaker and

there was a great leadership session where chapters from

throughout the country met to discuss education, member

retention, new membership, and other success stories. FHEA is

one of the larger Chapters and we have had good success over the

years compared to others. Some interesting ideas were presented

that we brought back to pursue in order to make us an even

stronger Chapter. The conference speakers were very

informative and we obtained contact

information for our Districts to

utilize in upcoming events and

training opportunities.

A very productive Board meeting took place recently in Ft. Lauderdale at Pier 66. Educational opportunities and scholarships were discussed, along with community programs and service projects to assist those in need in various FHEA districts. Board members also talked about regulations and how they may affect us. Next spring’s annual meeting, hosted by District IV, will be held at Pier 66, May 15-17, 2019, so mark your calendars and plan to attend.

For more information concerning all FHEA activities, meetings, announcements, and educational opportunities, keep an eye on our website, www.fhea.org FHEA has a service project at the upcoming Fall Meeting that will benefit our troops stationed overseas. We will be providing care packages to them from items donated by members at the Fall meeting. More details can be found on the FHEA website. If you can’t bring items with you, or you

won’t be attending, please see how you can contribute monetarily on the website. Our FHEA staff will purchase items to include in the packages. Please help us make this project a huge success. Thanks again for your participation

and support this year. I hope to see you in Orlando!

The combined 34th Annual AHCA Seminar and FHEA’s 56th Annual Meeting & Trade Show is scheduled for October 7 – 10, 2018 at Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando. The AHCA seminar is titled "Back to the Basics of Health Care Design and Construction," and the FHEA theme is “Beyond the Basics.” This meeting is shaping up to be one of the best seminars and trade shows we have had. The main events are:

• FHEA Golf Tournament: Sunday, October 7

• AHCA Seminar: Sunday – Tuesday, October 7 - 9

• FHEA Trade Show: Monday – Tuesday, October 8 - 9, running concurrently with the AHCA Seminar (Our Trade Show is sold out w/ 298 vendors)

• FHEA Annual Meeting: Wednesday, October 10

VOLUME XXXIV, NUMBER 3 FALL 2018

The President’s Corner Summer is moving quickly as usual. It may be my age, but the time just seems to fly by. It has been a very busy year with our new management team (MMG) and Executive Director Sarah Jeffcoat getting up to speed with our Chapter. Our FHEA Staff has been making great progress in coordinating and supporting our activities this year. We also have had terrific Board and Committee members working hard for you. It was great to see quite a few of our FHEA members at the annual ASHE conference in Seattle in July.

We were proud to receive our Chapters’

ASHE Platinum Award for the work

done in 2017 and we look forward to

making the Platinum Elite status for

the work being accomplished this year.

FHEA WEBSITE NEWS

THE WHISTLE FALL 2018

FDA Further Defines “Facility” for Drug Compounding

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently issued final guidance clarifying that an organization may operate both a compounding pharmacy and an outsourcing facility at the same general location if they are completely segregated by clearly defined boundaries, such as walls or doors that are locked. If the pharmacy is not completely segregated from the outsourcing facility, the FDA would generally consider the pharmacy part of the outsourcing facility and subject to 503B of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and current manufacturing practice, the agency stated. Both compounders also should clearly label their drug products as compounded at a pharmacy or outpatient facility, the FDA stated. Agencies Streamline N95 Respirator Regulation A final order exempting manufacturers from FDA premarket notification requirements for certain N95 respirators, disposable devices used to protect patients, and healthcare providers from infection was recently issued by the FDA. Under a new memorandum of understanding (MOU), among the FDA, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), and others, organizations seeking to market N95 respirators that do not exceed certain criteria need only NIOSH certification. The final order and MOU are intended to streamline regulatory requirements to help an adequate supply of the devices during emergencies.
