Birds live in a nest. Most birds build nests.

Some are very simple.

Others are carefully woven.

These are usually found in trees.

Some sea birds, like kittiwakes build their nests

on rocky ledges.

Nests are usually made of twigs, grass and leaves. Human materials like hair and cloth have been found in some.

Home Hunt...

They are starting to

build on the School

Grounds. Make a drama about what happens to the birds and their habitat.

Some birds are forced to move because of changes

humans have made to their habitats.

Some birds have to move to another habitat or migrate because of changes in the

seasons.

Starlings, swallows and swifts migrate because of

the change in the weather. They eat insects and other small mini-beasts which are not around in Winter.

Many birds like swallows, house martins and warblers have to eat

lots of food to make sure they have enough energy to get through their long journey.

Swallows make a 5,000 mile journey to South Africa. Click on the swallow to see it.

On the long migration journey there are many dangers on the way...

bad weather

starvation

exhaustion

predators who will eat them

humans destroying their habitat

humans hunting them

getting lost

Sort these birds into the correct side of the table to say if they migrate or not.
