Dear Parents and Community members, ANZAC Service The Mount Pleasant Primary School ANZAC Service is on Friday April 7 at 9:00am. Students who are members of Scouts, Girl Guides and/or Cubs are welcome to wear their uniforms for this service. Parents, grandparents and community members who are service people are also welcome to attend in uniform. You are welcome to invite members of the community to this service. Easter Service Our traditional Easter service will be held on Friday April 7. There will be two services, the first commencing at 11.10am and the second at approximately 11.40am. The first session will include rooms Kindy Red,2,4,7,11,13,16 and 18. The second session will include rooms 1,3,8,12,14,15,17. Students will be walking to St Michaels Anglican Church under supervision by their teachers. Eagles Cup In Term 2, some Year 5 and mostly Year 6 students will be participating in the Eagles Cup. We are establishing 1 AFL team, 2 soccer teams and 3 netball teams. If any parents can assist with umpiring of these sporting events, please contact Mrs Hogan . More information about team placements and fixtures will be provided. The Eagles Cup games are held on Fridays early in Term 2 . Building Fund A reminder that Mount Pleasant Primary has a Building fund account where parents can donate money and claim it as a tax deduction. The Building fund can only be used for maintenance or major works. In the past, funds from this account have been used for painting projects, a pergola outside of the art room and upgrading the student kitchen. Donations can be made at the front office or by eftpos facilities. Parking I urge you once again not to park in the Kiss and Drop area on Queens Road. This area should only be used for immediate drop off in the morning and
immediate pick up in the afternoon. If you cannot
see your child in the afternoon, either park in a designated parking bay or please drive around the block. IPads A special thankyou to Helen Suriano and Roseanne Baker from Baker Suriano Real Estate for their generous donation of two IPads. As Mount Pleasant has already embarked on an IPad program this will supplement this program and give us a total of 84 IPads. New School Shirt and Hat In 2016 a School Board sub committee was formed. As a consequence of this review there have been some minor changes to the dress code. The committee also reviewed the school uniform and subject to community consultation would like to recommend a change to the school shirt and hat. The shirt is a cotton backed mesh which is a quick dry material for summer, the cotton making it warmer for winter and easier to keep clean, also wash and wear. The hat is the basic black it has always been, adding the new logo. The great thing about the hat is that is it reversible with the faction colour on the inside for sports days or carnivals. Please note that any decisions made will reflect majority community feedback. Should a change be reflected by parents the changes will be phased in over an 18 month period. There is a sample of both the shirt and hat in the front office and we would appreciate your feed-back. The response thus far has not been great. Please email tanya.hunter@education.wa.edu.au to provide your feedback.

COMPASSION Compassion is caring about someone who is hurt: physically, emotionally or psychologically. It’s being kind and understanding because the other person matters to you. Compassion is forgiving someone who has hurt you. It’s caring deeply and wanting to help even if you do not know that person.

ROAD WISE School Holidays School holidays are a time to relax and enjoy the break from school, however they are also a time when many children are injured on our roads. As parents we have a responsibility to en-sure our children are properly supervised when on or near roads, car parks and driveways, as this is where many injuries and fatalities occur. Please keep watch over children during this time, as we want to see you and your family back after the break.

Robin Hood Project What is the Robin Hood Project ? - Project Robin Hood is a grant project, where the community decides what to do with $100,000 (provided by the City of Melville) to be split into grants of $1,000 to $20,000. The City of Melville will provide a grant only, with grant recipients to manage their own projects. Projects are presented by community groups, not-for-profit organisations, local businesses and individuals, and then the community votes online, with the most popular projects receiving funding. Project Robin Hood encourages community participation and supports the creativity of community-owned project ideas.
Mount Pleasant Primary School Project Submission Bush food and Native Species Community Corridor
Imagine a neighbourhood where the local school and community work together to create a community verge that attracts local natives such as birds and lizards as well as growing bush tucker to eat. Can Mount Pleasant Primary School inspire people to re-vegetate the verges and in doing so create a sustainable future by building close relationships with the community and nature? This project endeavours to teach both young and old how to plant a native and bush tucker garden whilst also creating a com-munity spirit. There will be community talks from local business and indigenous organisa-tions, planting mature trees, tube stock and propagating plants from seedlings, learning how to grow edible food with less resources whilst revitalising the neighbourhood. This project has strong links the to Western Australian Curriculum – Science, HASS, and Cross priorities such as Indigenous Studies and Sustainability ensuring that tomorrow’s genera-
tion can making lasting changes to our daily practices to build a resilient community.
Voting Voting starts on Monday April 10. Please visit the Melville Talks website to vote - www.melvilletalks.com.au/projectrobinhood
