Classroom Rules

Be Responsible

Be Respectful

Be Safe

--What does this mean to you??????

Be Responsible

• Bring your materials to class– Pencil, paper, math notebook, your assignments

• Come to school– “80% of life is just showing up”

• Be on time – in the room by the time the bell rings – Tardy policy

• Take responsibility for your learning. Try your best!

Be Respectful

• Be kind to others. Treat your classmates and your teacher the way you want to be treated.

• You are all friends in this room. Leave your drama at the door!

Be Safe1. No “horse play”2. Keep your feet on the floor

CLASS PROCEDURES

How we do things:

Entering Class

• Talk quietly• Sit down• Check the white board to see what we’re

doing today• Start working on the bell ringer/activity

Restroom Breaks

• Please don’t ask while I’m teaching

• Sign the sheet and take the pass (You have 3 passes per 9 weeks)

• Use the bathroom/fountain closest to our room

• In most cases, you should be gone less than 5 minutes

Eating/Drinking/Cell Phone Use• You may bring in a drink and a quiet snack. If you spill it, you must

clean it up. If eating and drinking disrupts class, you must throw away the items and no more food and drinks will be allowed in the classroom.

• You must not use your cell phone in class. There may be times when we use our cell phones for learning purposes. I will tell you when these times are.

Materials You Need

• Bring paper, pencil, and binder every day.• You may leave your binder in here if you have

trouble keeping up with your materials• Keep your Algebra notes (including bellringers)

together in your binder/notebook• If you forget your pencil/paper you may use

the extras on the table next to the door. • Don’t wait until class starts to get up and get

your materials!!

Computer Privileges

• Turn in your AUP (handed out in your English class)! Very Important!!

• We will use the computers frequently. • During class, you may ONLY access the

websites that I have given you permission to access.

LUNCH!!!

• You will eat in the new cafeteria at the assigned tables with your classmates.

• Lunch lasts 25 minutes.• We eat lunch at :1:20 – 1:45. This is D lunch.

Leaving Class

• Do not stand up and go to the door prior to the bell

• Push in your chair and clean up your area

What happens if classroom rules and/or procedures aren’t followed?

• What do YOU think should happen?

• Why does it matter?

Student Discipline Code

• All violations of school policies and classrooms/procedures will be handled per the Scott County Public Schools Discipline Code.

• Warning, conferencing, phone call home, loss of class privileges/rewards, lunch detention, office referral, among others

FUN THINGS!

• You will be divided into teams of two. You and your partner must name your team. Team members will change periodically.

• Teams earn points for class participation, enthusiasm, trying hard/doing your best, following procedures, and being a good friend

• At the end of each two week period, the team with the most points gets a privilege and/or a reward.

Privileges

• 15 minutes on the computer to listen to music, play approved games, visit approved websites

• 15 minutes to draw or read• Run errands for me • Listen to iPod (no texting!!!!!!) for 15 minutes• Anything else? What do YOU think would be a

good privilege?

Rewards

• Candy/treats• Popcorn• Drinks• What else would you like as a reward?

ALGEBRA: How Will We Learn It?

• Cooperative learning strategies• Real world applications• Solving problems• Using technology, including blogging• Review games• Most Importantly: through YOUR HARD WORK

(I can’t learn it for you. Sorry. )

Standards Based Grading

• It’s a good thing! Your grade is based on what you know.

• You get to keep working on the things that are hard for you until you have mastered them.

• You will keep track of your score (1-4) on each target on a sheet of paper that I give you.

• A 4 means you have mastered the skill (an expert)

• A 3 means you are almost an expert.• A 2 means you have a little more work to do• A 1 means that this is an area in which you can

grow

• *Lets look at an example target and the sheet that you will use to keep track of your scores

Cooperative Learning

• What does it mean?

• We will be learning together and interacting with each other: tell a friend, round robin, quiz quiz trade

• We will not all always be doing the same thing. Everyone learns at a different pace and in different ways. I respect your individuality. I expect you all to respect each other’s differences, too.

What if you need help or have a question???

• Never be afraid to ask questions. Before class, during class, and after class are all appropriate times to ask questions. The worst thing you can do is not ask if you don’t understand.

• I am here for you. You may visit me in the morning (if I don’t have duty), in the afternoon, or during my 3rd period planning time (with your 3rd period teacher’s permission and a note).

IT’S GOING TO BE A GREAT YEAR
