The welcoming of December has our Doral Explorers
in full holiday spirit! Throughout November, our 1st
Grade Team led the school in organizing a canned
food drive for those in our community who are less for-
tunate. Our students gathered thousands of cans and
supplies. With the help of the Doral Police Department,
these supplies were transported to food shelters
around the city just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. Ms. Moreno’s class did
an exceptional job working as a team and were the leading class in making
donations during the canned food drive. The Doral Police Department and the
faculty and staff at Doral International were all very impressed with the efforts
of our students. ’Tis the season for giving and our kids did just that!

At this very special time of the year, we would like to take this opportuni-
ty to thank all of you for being part of the Explorer family. As we look back on
this first part of the school year, we are very proud of the things we've experi-
enced and accomplished so far in 2016. We have participated in various ex-
citing school-sponsored activities and achieved some important academic
goals. With that being said, we know that 2017 is going to be AN AMAZING
year!
Once again, thank you all for your donations these past couple of
days! Your donations have truly made a difference to numerous people in our
community. Our service to the community continues to be a priority and we
thank you for helping our Explorers understand the value of making a differ-
ence.
Before leaving for our holiday break, we hope to continue to see all of
our students academically engaged. Parents, please make sure to encour-
age your child to log-on to Mathletics and other educational websites at
home! Also, please make note that when we return from our holiday break,
our students and teachers will continue to work diligently to ensure they attain
success. Remember, FSA tutoring will resume as scheduled. Additionally, our
FSA Crunch Plan will begin to take effect. We trust that with your support, our
Doral International Explorers will prosper. For now, enjoy and relax as you
make memories and spend time with family and friends. We hope you all
have a safe and happy holiday season!

Our 2nd grade students learned about Native
Americans and their shelters. As a team pro-
ject, the students explored the different struc-
tures the Florida Seminoles built and why
they built their homes the way they did. The
first step of the project was to research the
Chickee structure, and then each child had
to design their own Chickee hut in a picture
draft. Their teammates selected the best de-
sign and began building it. Each team was
given various materials to build their own
Chickee Home Structure. The students used
cardboard bases, popsicle sticks, glue, tape,
leaves, small props and other decorative
pieces to recreate the Seminole homes. The
students worked together as a team, com-
municated with one another and were dedi-
cated to the task at hand. The students really
enjoyed going through the process. Most im-
portantly they loved seeing their Chickee
completed with each group’s personal
touches. They hope to see a Seminole Na-
tive American Chickee home in person real
soon!

Our 3rd Graders Are Off the Charts
This month our 3rd Grade students com-
pleted their unit on Data and Graphs. This
unit showed students how to read and in-
terpret all times of charts including line,
bar, picture, and circle graphs. Students
were also shown how to construct these
graphs after collecting their own data. The
last step the students mastered was deter-
mining which graph to use to best repre-
sent a given set of data. After a lot of hard
work, our 3rd graders are data masters!

The students in Ms. Marchal’s Spanish class wrote beautiful poems on gratitude. Special mention goes
out to Valentina Vergara and Melanie Corredor
GRACIAS
Yo quiero dar las gracias
Por lo que soy, y por lo que no soy,
Por lo que tengo, y lo que no tengo.
Por haber nacido donde he nacido,
Por tener la familia que tengo,
Por tener los amigos que tengo.
Por todo lo que aprendo,
y por lo que no aprendo,
porque me hace seguir buscando.
Por sentir, por recordar,
Por olvidar, por querer,
Por ser querida.
Por lo que me rio,
Por lo que lloro.
Por estar viva.
Autora: Valentina Vergara, 6th gr.
GRACIAS
Gracias por cada mañana
Y su luz de amanecer,
Por descanso y cobijo
Al anochecer.
Por salud y alimento,
Por amor y buenos amigos,
Y por todo cuanto recibimos.
Ventanas azules,
Verdes escaleras,
Muros amarillos
Con enredaderas,
Y en el tejadillo
Palomas caseras.
Las ventanas de mi casa
Han pillado un resfriado
Y estornudan como locas
Cada vez que yo las abro.
Los pájaros marchan
Buscando el calor,
Las hojas se caen
Y cambian de color.
El día es más corto
Calienta poco el sol,
Las setas y uvas
¡Qué ricas son!
Autora: Melanie Corredor, 6th gr.
