What Gender Can Tell The Difference Between Coke Products Better?

Tessa Nelson9th GradeBellwood Antis High School

Sense of TasteGirls & boys have same # of taste buds but girls have a higher sensitivity level

Boys need an average of 10% more sourness and 20% more sweetness.

The Sweetness is what I’m testing.

Girls do have a better sense of taste then boys.

HypothesisGirls will be able to tell the difference between

the variety of Coke products better.

Six Dixie cups, filled with 40 milliliters of the Coke products, and one with water

The blindfolded subjects come in and drink the soda one by one, drinking the water after each.

They were told what choices they could chose from.

They told us their answers after each drink.

Control VariablesCoke Products

To prevent certain factors from interfering with my experiment I controlled the following variables.

1. Quantity of Coke in the Dixie cups.

2. Expiration Date on Coke Bottle.

3. Same Temperature

4. Same Volume

5. Purchased on same day

Control VariablesTesting Environment

To prevent certain factors from interfering with my experiment I controlled the following variables.

1. Consistent room temperature. (22˚C)

2. Time of day.

3. Time of year.

Control VariablesTesting Subjects

To prevent certain factors from interfering with my experiment I controlled the following variables.

1. Ages 15-17

2. None had eaten lunch yet

Experimental Procedure

Step 1Fill the Dixie Cups up

to 40 milliliters with the 6 different Coke products and water.

Step 2Label the cups,

Sample A (my control group), Sample B, and

so forth.

Step 3Blind fold the subjects in the school’s hall.

Step 4They will then be told

their choices.

Step 5Bring the subjects in

one at a time, in the pattern of Boy, Girl,

Boy, Girl.

Step 6Set the students in the same seat when

they come in.

Step 7The different

samples will then be placed in front of

them.

Step 8

Have them drink the samples one at a time.

Step 9After each sample, have them drink 40 milliliters of

water.

Step 10

After each sample, record their guesses.

Step 11When the subjects exit the room, monitor

them to make sure they do not

communicate.

Step 12Calculate the

average percentage correct for the male

and female’s answers.

ConclusionMy data does not support my hypothesis.

Therefore I reject my hypothesis; Girls can not tell the difference between coke

products better than boys.

If I were to do this

again..Other

drinking products.
