What happened at the recent APEC meeting?

• What does APEC stand for?• B level questions: Where do you if you want a business or visitor visa to the U.S.? Is getting

a business visa convenient or easy? Where is the headquarters of APEC?

• L and above level questions: Do you know anything about the recent APEC meeting? How about the discussions between Xi Jin Ping and Obama? Did they reach any agreements? What were they? Have you ever been to the US? Would you like to go there? Have you heard that it is easy or hard to get a temporary business/tourist/visitor visa to the US?

This is taken from a news website:“Under the visa deal, which will take effect on November 12, both countries

would extend the terms of multiple entry short-term tourist and business visas to 10 years from one year, the White House said in a statement accompanying Obama’s announcement. Student visas would be

extended to five years from one year.”

• APEC stands for “Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation”. It is a group of nations that have joined together to try to develop free trade and fair economic development.

• You need to go to a US consulate or embassy. It used to be rather difficult, but it is now getting easier. Xi Jin Ping and Obama agreed that both US citizens and Chinese citizens can get 10 year visas to the US and China now.

• The headquarters of APEC is in singapore look

• How many US consulates ( 领事馆) are in China? How many embassies (大使馆) ? Where are they? If there is more than one consulate, what areas does a particular consulate cover?

• Let’s try to guess ….. then we’ll look at a map …

US Embassy and 5 consulates in China; and the areas which each covers

• If you lived in Sichuan where would you need to go to get a business visa to the US? Guangzhou handles all “immigrant visas” for China. A “nonimmigrant visa” is one for a temporary stay in the US of any kind, even work. An “immigrant visa” is for people who will get a “green card” in the US after they arrive there. If I live in Xinjiang, and I want to visit the US for business, where do I need to go? And what if I were in Fujian? What about Hong Kong?
