5 of 5 on 3-pointers and had 29points and 10 assists to lead Den-ver to a 118-107 victory over thePhoenix Suns on Saturday thatclinched a playoff berth for theNuggets.

The Suns fell a half-gamebehind Utah for the eighth andfinal playoff spot in the WesternConference. The Jazz played athome against Orlando on Satur-day night. Phoenix plays at Utahon Tuesday and holds thetiebreaker over the Jazz.

Steve Nash of the Suns had 13assists, nine in the first quarter,and passed Oscar Robertson intofifth place on the NBA’s careerlist. The Suns lost Channing Fryeto a shoulder injury in the secondquarter.

Shannon Brown scored 28points for Phoenix, including acareer-best 6 3s on 12 attempts.

The Nuggets beat the Suns forthe sixth straight time, three thisseason.

Denver pulled within a half-game of Dallas for the No. 6 spotin the West. The Mavericks, whohold the tiebreaker over Denver,played at Chicago on Saturdaynight.

Arron Afflalo scored 19 pointsand Kenneth Faried had 16 for theNuggets, who had six players fin-ish in double figures, shot 55 per-cent from the field and had a 26-2advantage on fastbreak points.

Marcin Gortat had 18 pointsand 11 rebounds for Phoenix.

Denver used a third-period out-burst to build a 21-point lead. TheSuns cut it to 10 in the fourthquarter but could get no closer.

Nash passed Robertson withhis fourth assist, on a 3-pointer byFrye just 4:22 into the game. Thetwo-time MVP had assists on fiveof Phoenix’s first six field goalsand finished the first quarter withnine.

Wizards 86, Heat 84MIAMI — LeBron James and

Chris Bosh sat out the game, rest-ing for the postseason. DwyaneWade played and got hurt.

Wade lasted less than threeminutes before dislocating his leftindex finger, and without their

three stars, the Heat lost 86-84 tothe woeful Washington Wizardson Saturday night.

Wade appeared to get his fingercaught in another player’s jerseyand immediately went to the lock-er room grimacing in pain. Henever returned, even though fanschanted “We want Dwyane!” acouple of times.

There was no immediate esti-mate as to how long Wade mightbe out, but with the playoffsbeginning next weekend, the Heatwill hope for a speedy recovery.He has already missed 14 gamesthis season because of injuries;the Heat are 13-1 without him.

James sat out for only the secondtime this season. He was active andgot taped after Wade departed butnever entered the game.

The game wasn’t meaningless:Miami began the night trailing theChicago Bulls by one game in theloss column for the best record inthe Eastern Conference, and theHeat held the tiebreaker. The reg-ular season ends Thursday.

Nene took a feed from a dri-ving John Wall and banked in thewinning layup with 0.5 secondsleft.

Cartier Martin scored 22 pointsfor Washington. Wall had 13points, 13 assists, six reboundsand four steals, and KevinSeraphin scored 17 points for theWizards, who outscored Miami22-3 on fast-break points.

Rockets 99, Warriors 96HOUSTON — Former West-

ern Kentucky standout CourtneyLee scored 20 points, GoranDragic added 18 points and sevenassists and the Houston Rocketssnapped a six-game losing streakwith a 99-96 win over the GoldenState Warriors on Saturday night.

Luis Scola had 13 points andChase Budinger added 11 for theRockets, who came into the gamein the 10th spot in the WesternConference, one game behindUtah and Phoenix.

Houston went 10 for 26 from3-point range to snap a four-gamehome losing streak and beat theWarriors for the 14th time in thelast 16 meetings.

Klay Thompson scored 24points and Brandon Rush added19 for the Warriors, who have losteight straight and 20 of their last24.

76ers 109, Pacers 106, OTINDIANAPOLIS — Elton

Brand scored 20 points and LouWilliams added 19 to help thePhiladelphia 76ers beat the Pacers109-106 in overtime Saturdaynight, stopping Indiana’s winningstreak at seven games.

Jrue Holiday scored 17 pointsand Andre Iguodala added 16 forthe 76ers, who inched closer toclinching a playoff berth. The76ers left the game needing just awin or a loss by Milwaukee to

clinch a spot.David West had a season-high

32 points and grabbed 12rebounds for Indiana. Tyler Hans-brough scored 17 points and PaulGeorge added 16 for the Pacers,who could have locked up the No.3 seed in the Eastern Conferencewith a win. Danny Granger, Indi-ana’s top scorer this season, hadfour points on 2-for-12 shooting.

Bulls 93, Mavericks 83CHICAGO — Luol Deng

scored 22 points, Richard Hamil-ton added 19 and the ChicagoBulls held off a fourth-quarterrally to beat the Dallas Mavericks93-83 on Saturday night.

The victory by the Bulls (48-16) gave them a 21⁄2 game leadover Miami for the top seed in theEastern Conference playoffs.Chicago has two regular-seasongames left, against Indiana andCleveland.

foot/ankle injury and he had 11points with eight assists in 32minutes.

Defending NBA championDallas, which clinched a playoffberth on Thursday night whenHouston lost, was playing the sec-ond game of a back-to-back, soveteran guards Jason Kidd andJason Terry sat out to rest.

Bucks 106, Nets 95MILWAUKEE — Brandon

Jennings scored 30 points to leadthe Milwaukee Bucks to a 106-95victory over the New Jersey Netson Saturday night that kept theirslim playoff hopes alive.

Jennings, who hit three straight3-pointers late in the game, was 9of 18 from the field and finishedwith six rebounds, six assists andfour steals.

Ersan Ilyasova added 17 pointsand 17 rebounds for the Bucks,who snapped a three-game losingstreak and beat New Jersey for the11th straight time.
