Dear Parents/Carers and Students,
Today we hosted Kerryn McGuiness, DET Reviewer; Ray Burrell, Assistant Principal from Iramoo P.S; and David Quinn, Principal from Werribee P.S to assist us with our School Review. The School Review is part of the School Performance Framework which aims to improve school performance and accountability by engaging peers in a cycle of performance feedback that includes self-evaluation, review, planning, reporting and sharing exemplary practice across the system. School self-evaluation provides an opportunity for the whole school community, including students, parents and all staff, to reflect on student outcomes in light of their goals, targets and key improvement strategies from the previous planning cycle. This includes examining teaching and learning strategies, the performance and development culture and other aspects of school operations so they can be strengthened and supported to improve student outcomes. Following the School Review we will write the next strategic plan which covers student learning, student engagement and wellbeing, and student pathways and transitions. The strategic plan is the school’s statement to its community about what it stands for and intends to do, over the next four years, to improve student outcomes. It defines what the school values most and sets out the school’s goals and targets, key strategies for improvement and its resourcing priorities.
Until next week we wish everyone a wonderful weekend and remind all families that maximising attendance is a critical factor in your child achieving their full potential so remember, Every Day Counts!

TEAM NEWS
Prep Team…
The students in Prep have been writing about their holiday experiences. Here is a selection from Prep A and Prep B
1/2 Team… The Year 1/2s have been learning to write a persuasive text. A persuasive text is a text that presents one side of an argument which aims to persuade an audience. Pets should Not Be Allowed at School I don’t think we should take our pets to school because they might poo on the mat and they might chase you around the school. They also might scratch you too. Layla H 1/2B Fast Food Should Be Banned If you eat too much sugar, you will get sick and fat. It is not cheap. Also it makes you sluggish. That is why I believe that fast food should be banned. Ohaani A 1/2B Pets Should Be Allowed at School Pets might distract us from our work. They might have a disease or people could be allergic. Pets would make a big mess! Faith L 1/2B
3/4 Team…
Authors Study We have been looking at our favourite authors in the 3/4 team. Some of the students have
discovered some interesting facts about their chosen author.
My favourite author is:
Dr Seuss, he wrote lots of books like Cat in the Hat and Yertle the Turtle. Xavier 3/4B
Morris Gleitzman, he wrote Once, Then, Now and After. Amara 3/4B
James Patterson is a clever author who published the series, Middle School. Thomas Giles 3/4A
Mem Fox is an author who writes a lot of books about Australian animals. Nidhi Koduru 3/4A
5/6 Team
Keep your eyes peeled for all the wonderful performances the Year 5 and 6 students will be doing at Assembly in the near future! The 56s are studying Aboriginal history and culture this term and have been learning some wonderful songs.
This week at assembly, 56A (Mrs Quilty’s class) will be performing a song called, ‘Ridge-i-didge’. It is a song all about the Aboriginal Flag and taking pride in ourselves.
We have learnt about the colours of the Aboriginal Flag:
Red means the land
Black means the skin
Yellow means the sun.
There are some Wiradjuri language (of New South Wales) words in the song – here they are:
Bubul – bottom/buttocks
Buraaygalang – many children

WOODVILLE ART SHOW The Woodville Biennial Art show was a great success. It was lovely to see so many families come to see the children’s artwork, watch performances and make donations for the purchase of their child’s art work. Thank you to everyone who attended. We raised upwards of $650 on the sale of art work alone and the PFA raised over $760from the sausage sizzle. I would like to personally thank everyone who helped set up the artwork and assisted on the night. And thank you to everyone who attended. Mrs Wood, Mrs Davies and myself would also like to thank the students for their efforts in creating amazing work. Events like this aren’t just about raising money; they are a chance to get together as a community. The following students won the award for the best artwork in their grade (awarded by their classroom teacher) and will receive a certificate at assembly on Friday:

Prep Art News… Congratulations to all of the Prep children for participating in their first ever Woodville Art Show!
All children submitted a piece of work inspired by Vincent Van Gogh’s, ‘Starry Starry night’ or by
the bright colours of Andy Warhol. Thank you to all families who came along to the show and
purchased their children’s work. If you were unable to attend and would still like to buy their
masterpiece, please send along a gold coin donation. All funds going towards the new playground!
