WORLD AIDS DAY 1ST DECEMBER, 2015
Goa State AIDS Control Society organised the state level function of World AIDS Day, on 1st December
2015 at the Seminar Hall, Secretariat,
Porvorim. The Honorable Dy. Chief
Minister / Minister for Health Adv. Francis
D’souza , was the Chief Guest for the
occasion.
The Project Director Dr. Jose D’Sa
delivered the welcome address and
delivered the key note address highlighting the work done by GSACS during the year.
This was followed by the lighting of the traditional lamp by the dignitaries, Dy. Chief Minister / Minister
for Health Adv. Francis D’souza ,Dr.
Sanjiv Dalvi Director, Directorate of
Health Services, Dr. Jose D’Sa, Project
Director, Dr. Digambar Naik Chaiparson

A short film of 15 minutes duration
“Kuch Kehna Hai” was released on the occasion the film on pre and post test counseling was made
with the support of the technical support unit Goa SACS. The writer of the film Ms.Asha Vernekar, team
leader TSU spoke on the content of the film.

The DVD s of the film was released by the Honourable Dy.CM. The
film was shown to the appreciative audience of students, health
workers, doctors NGOs, etc. The director of the film Shri.
Dharamnand Vernekar was felicitated for volunteering his services
for the making of the film.
The Dy. CM Shri Francis D’Souza who is also the Health Minister
stated “HIV patients should always be shown compassion and
should be given moral support. Going by the statistics, it is evident
that the number of HIV cases in Goa has decreased considerably”
Shri Umakant Sawant the D.D (IEC) proposed the vote of thanks. The

NATIONAL YOUTH DAY 2016
Goa State AIDS Control Society (Goa SACS), Panaji organized the National Youth Day in
collaboration with the Red Ribbon Club Cell of Narayan Zantye College of Commerce, Bicholim
on 12th January, 2016. Dignitaries present at the function were the Chief Guest Shri. Pramod
Sawant - President of GSIDC and M.L.A Sanquelim Constituency, Dr. Jose D’ Sa, Project
Director of Goa SACS, Mr. Umakant Sawant -DD IEC, Principal of the college Dr. Sathish and
Mrs. Jeunesse Fernandes, Asst. Director (Youth Affairs).
On the onset, the dignitaries were welcomed with a floral bouquet. They then lit the
lamp- a traditional practice to invoke the presence of
God.The principal welcomed and addressed the
gathering. In his welcome he spoke about the
significance of celebrating this day emphasizing that it
is the youth who can influence and make great changes
in the society; it was only Swami Vivekananda then
who saw great potential in the youth, who were
neglected, as an important resource to the society.
The Chief Guest Shri. Pramod Sawant, President of GSIDC and M.L.A of Sanquelim
constituency then encouraged and challenged the youth to take up issues in the constituency and
change the situation around for good. He quoted Swami Vivekananda “Look not what your
country can do but you see what you can do for your country” he said that youth have power and
can make a difference. He also happily extended his support to those who would want to make a
difference for the betterment of the society. He said that they would always be welcomed.
After the chief guest’s address, the Goa
SACS Project Director, Dr. Jose D’Sa spoke.
The focus of the programme he said was to train
young minds to live a life of abstinence, there by
eradicating AIDS in Goa, to educate the society
on AIDS and embrace HIV+ and AIDS victims.
He sensitized the 150 students on the basics of
HIV/AIDS and its prevention. He said that
education was a powerful tool and it was only this
young generation who could prevent the disease
and ensure a zero AIDS generation tomorrow.
Following the sensitization talk, was the prize distribution of the poster competition held by the
Red Ribbon Club in association with Goa SACS on the topic “Fight AIDS not people with
AIDS”. Ms. Nikita Gawas was awarded the 1st place, followed by Ms. Swetha Chari &
Ms. Pratiksha Ghadi winning 1st & 2nd runners up position respectively. The prizes were in
cash.
There after a formal vote of thanks was given by Mr. Umakant Sawant-DD IEC.

SENSITIZATION OF CADETS AT POLICE TRAINING SCHOOL- VALPOI
A one day sensitization programme was held for the cadets of the police training
school at Valpoi. The Vice-Principal of the training school and S.P Gajanan
Prabhudesai , along with PI Deepak Pednekar, reporter Uday Sawant, Umakant
Sawant DD(IEC) , Ramesh Rathod AD(TI),Asha VernekarTL(TSU) & Archana
Doshi,PO ELM were present at the programme. A total of 560 cadets attended the
training.
