• Theenclosurecanweighupto32kg(70lb.).Donottrytoliftitbyyourself.

• Beforemovingtheenclosure,alwaysremovethePowerSupplies,CoolingFanModule,I/OModulesandDiskDrivestominimizetheweight.

• UnplugthePowerSuppliesandanyothercablesbeforeyoumovetheenclosure.

• DonotlifttheenclosurebythehandlesofthePowerSuppliesorCoolingFanModules.Theyarenotdesignedtosupporttheweight.

TheequipmentmustbeoperatedwithtwoworkingPowerSupplies.

Beforeyoubegin,makesurethesitewhereyouintendtosetupanduseyourstoragesystemhasthefollowing:

• StandardACsupplypowerfromanindependentsourceorarackpowerdistributionunitwithaUPS.

• HostcomputerwithastandardFibreChannelHBA(hostbusadapter)withthelatestBIOSanddrivers.Followtheinstructionsprovidedwithyourhostbusadapter,andinstalltheHBAanditsdriversoftware,ifnecessary.

• TheRAIDchassisandExpansionchassisenclosuresareshippedwithalltheplug-inmodulesinstalled.

• TheAccessoryBoxcontainstheACpowercord(s),theSoftwareandManualsDisc,andtherails-hardwarepartsforrackmounting.

ForMicrosoftWindowsServers-InserttheSoftwareandManualsDisc,clickthePseudo LUN Driver (INF) buttonandfollowingtheon-screeninstallationinstructions.

1.Positiontheshippingpackagingwithinreasonabledistanceofthesitewhereyouintendtoinstallthestoragesystem.

2. Inspectthepackagingforcrushes,cuts,waterdamage,oranyotherevidenceofmishandlingduringtransit.Ifanydamageappearstobepresent,itissuggestedtotakephotographsbeforeopeninganyboxes.Youmaywishtocontacttheshippingcompanyifthereisapparentdamage.

3.Openthecartontopandremovetheaccessorykit.

4.Removethefoamcomponentontopoftheenclosure.

5.Usinganassistant,lifttheenclosurefromthecartonandplaceitonastableworksurface.

Thefollowingsafetyrequirementsmustbeconsideredwhenmountinginarackcabinet.

• Therackdesignshouldsupportthetotalweightoftheinstalledenclosuresandincorporatestabilizingfeaturessuitabletopreventtherackfromtippingorbeingpushedoverduringinstallationornormaluse.

• Allplug-inandblankmodulesarepartofthefireenclosureandmustonlyberemovedwhenareplacementcanbeimmediatelyinstalled.Theenclosuremustnotbeoperatedwithoutallmodulesinplace.

• UnplugthePowerSuppliesifyoubelievethesystemhasbecomedamagedinanyway.

• Theenclosuremustonlybeoperatedfromapowersupplyinputvoltagerangeof100-120Vor200-240V.

• Inordertocomplywithapplicablesafety,emissionandthermalrequirementsnocoversshouldberemovedandallbays/slotsmusthaveplug-inmodulesinstalled.

• Thepowercordsarethemainpowerdisconnect.Ensurethatthesocketoutletsarelocatedneartheequipmentandareeasilyaccessible.

• Whenpoweredbymultiplepowersources,disconnectallsupplypowerforcompletepowerisolation.

• Asafeelectricalgroundconnectionmustbeprovidedtothepowercords.Checkthegroundingoftheenclosurebeforeapplyingpower.

• Provideasuitablepowersourcewithelectricaloverloadprotectiontomeettherequirementsestablishedbythespecifications.

• Onlyconnecttheenclosuretoapowersourcethathasovercurrentprotectionof20Aorless.

• Theequipmentmustbeoperatedwithtwopowersupplymodules.

• Topreventoverheatingdonotoperatetheenclosurewithonepowersupplyremovedformorethan30minutes.

• Whenloadingarack,filltherackfromthebottomupandemptyfromthetopdown.

• Donotslidemorethanoneenclosureoutoftherackatatimetoavoidthedangeroftheracktopplingover.

• Therackdesignshouldtakeintoconsiderationthemaximumenclosureoperatingambienttemperaturewhichis40°C(104°F).

• Thesystemmustbeoperatedwithlowpressurerearexhaustinstallation(backpressurecreatedbyrackdoorsandobstaclesnottoexceed5pascals(0.5mmwatergauge)).

• Therackshouldhaveasafeelectricaldistributionsystem.Itmustprovideover-currentprotectionfortheenclosureandmustnotbeoverloadedbythetotalnumberofenclosuresinstalled.Theelectricalpowerconsumptionratingshownonthenameplateshouldbeobserved.

• Theelectricaldistributionsystemmustprovideareliablegroundforeachenclosureintherack.

• Eachpowersupplyineachenclosurehasagroundleakagecurrentof1.8mAmax.at60Hz,264V.Thedesignoftheelectricaldistributionsystemmusttakeintoconsiderationthetotalgroundleakagecurrentfromallsuppliesinalltheenclosures.Therackmayrequirelabelingwith“HIGHLEAKAGECURRENT.Ground(earth)connectionisessentialbeforeconnectingasupply.”

• TherackwhenconfiguredwiththeenclosuresmustmeetthesafetyrequirementsofUL60950-1andIEC60950-1/EN60950-1.

Warning: Do not remove the covers from the Power Supplies. Danger of electric shock inside. Return them to your supplier for replacement.

Warning: There is a danger of explosion if the RAID Controller battery is disposed of improperly. Dispose of used batteries in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and national regulations.

Warning: Ensure that you have installed and checked a suitable anti-static wrist or ankle strap and observe all conventional ESD precautions when handling modules and components. Avoid contact with backplane components and module connectors, etc. ESD damage is not covered by warranty.

Caution:Ifthisequipmentisusedinamannernotspecifiedbythemanufacturer,theprotectionprovidedbytheequipmentmaybeimpaired.

Important: Class 1 Laser Product.TheopticalSFPtransceivermodulesmustbeaUL(orotherNorthAmericanNRTL)RECOGNIZEDCOMPONENT,andmustbeapprovedbyTUV(orotherEuropeanProductSafetytesthouse)andthelaserinthemodulemustcomplywithLaserClass1,US21CFR(J)andEN60825-1.Ifopticalmodulesaretobeprovidedandinstalledbytheenduser,theymustalsocomplywiththestandardslistedabove.

Important: The optical modules provided and installed by the end user must be a UL (or other North America NRTL) RECOGNIZED COMPONENT and must be approved by TUV (or other European product safety test house), and the laser in the module must comply with Laser Class 1, US 21 CFR (J) and EN 60825-1).

Caution: The RJ45 socket on the RAID Controller is for Ethernet connection onlyandmustnotbeconnectedtoatelecommunicationsnetwork.

TheRS-1220-F4-5412EandRS-1220-E3-XPNenclosuresaredesignedforinstallationintoanindustrystandard19-inchcabinet.

• Weight,thefullypopulatedenclosureweighsabout32kg(70lb.).Itisnotrecommendedtolifttheenclosurebyyourself.

• Minimumdepth:700mm(27.6inches)fromfrontflangetorearmetalwork.

• Aminimumgapof25mm(1inch)clearancebetweentherackdoorandfrontoftheenclosure;and50mm(2inches)rearclearancebetweentherearoftheenclosureandtherearoftherackisrecommendedinordertomaintainthecorrectairflow.

• Therackshouldpresentamaximumbackpressureof5pascals(0.5mmwatergauge).

Removetheplug-inmodules(PowerSupplies,CoolingFanmodule,RAIDControllerorDiskI/Omodules,andDiskDrives).

1. Removethepowersupplymodulesbypushingthelatchabovethehandletotherightandpullingthemodulefromtheenclosure.

2. Removethecoolingfanmodulebygraspingthelatchbetweenyourthumbandforefinger,squeezetoreleasethelatchandpulloutwardtoejectthemodule.Withdrawthemodulefromtheenclosure.

3.RemovetheRAIDControllerorDiskI/Omodules,usingtwohandssqueezeyourthumbsandforefingerstogethertoreleasethelatches.Pulloutonthelatchestoejectthemoduleandwithdrawthemodulefromtheenclosure.

4. Removethediskdrives.Drivecarriermodulesareshippedfromthefactorywiththeanti-tamperlocksenabled.Usingthekeyprovidedintheaccessorykit,insertthekeyintothecutoutinthehandleandrotateinacounter-clockwisedirectionuntilthe“red”indicatorisnotvisible.Releasethecarrierhandlebypressingthelatchinthehandlewithyourforefingerandrotatingthehandletotherighttoejectthecarrier.Usingthehandlegentlywithdrawthecarriermodulefromtheenclosure. 1. Placetheemptyenclosurechassisonastableworksurface.RemovetheRackMountingRailkitfromtheaccessorykit,inspectthecontentsandcheckfordamage.

2.AttachtheleftandrightchassisslidestotheenclosuresidesusingsixM3x4buttonheadscrews.ThreescrewseachsideseeFigure2forlocations.

3.Assembletheleftandrightchassislatchesusingthechassislatchscrews.EnsurethatthelatchisorientatedasshowninFigure2,withthespringarm(smallarmportion)locatedagainstitsstop.Ontherighthandsidethestopislocatedatthetop,andontheleftsideitislocatedatthebottom.

4.Assembletherackbracketstotherackpostsasfollows(seeFigure3).Thebracketsareuniversalandwillfiteitherside.

a.Locatetheguidepinattherearofeachbracketandinsertthepinintoarearrackposthole.Attachthebrackettotherearrackpostusingthewashersandscrewssupplied.Thescrewsshouldbeleftloose.

b.Extendtherailtofitbetweentherackposts.

c.Attachthebrackettothefrontrackpostusingthewashersandscrewssupplied.Thescrewsshouldbeleftloose.

d.Tightenthetwoclampingscrewslocatedalongtheinsideoftherearsectionoftherackbracket.

5.Mounttheenclosureintherackasfollows(refertoFigure4):

a.Usinganassistant,lifttheenclosurealigningitwiththerackrailsandcarefullyinsertthechassisslidesintotherackrails.

b.Pushtheenclosurecompletelyintotherackcabinet.

c.Tightentherearrackbracketmountingscrews.(Previouslyleftloose.)

d.Withdrawtheenclosureuntilitreachesthehardstops(approximately400mm(15.75inches)).

e.Tightenthefrontrackbracketmountingscrews(Again,previouslyleftloose.)

f. Pushtheenclosurecompletelyintotherackcabinetandattachtothefrontoftherackusingthecaptivefastenersonthefrontflanges.

6.Re-installthemodulesremovedearlier.

a.Installthepowersupplymodulesbyslidingeachmoduleintothepowersupplymodulebays,leftsiderearoftheenclosure.Continuetopushuntilthepowersupplyfullyseats.Aclickwillbeheardasthelatchengages.

b.Installthecoolingfanmodule.Withthelatchintheopenposition,slidethemoduleintothecoolingfanmodulebayuntilthelatchengages,centerrearoftheenclosure.Securethemodulebymanuallyclosingthelatch.Aclickwillbeheardasthelatchengages.

c.InstalltheRAIDControllerorDiskI/Omodules.Withthelatchesintheopenposition,slidethemoduleintotheI/Omodulebayuntilthelatchesengage.Securethemodulebymanuallyclosingthelatches.Repeatforthesecondmoduleorablankmodule.

d.Installthediskdrives.Releasethedrivecarrierhandlebypressingthelatchwithyourforefingerandrotatingthehandletotheright.Insertthecarriermoduleintoanemptydriveslotatthefrontoftheenclosureandgentlyslideitinuntilitstops.Seatthemodulebypressingontheleftedgeofthedrivewithyourthumbandsecureitbyclosingthehandle.Aclickwillbeheardasthelatchengages. (See Section 4 on the next page.)

TheRS-1220-F4-5412EandRS-1220-E3-XPNenclosuresystemssupporttwodifferenttypesofdiskdrives:SATAandSAS.Inordertoallowoptimalconfigurationstobebuilt,thefollowingrulesshouldbeobserved.

• Differentdrivetypescannotbemixedinthesamecolumn.

• Differentdrivetypescannotbemixedinthearray.

• SATAdrivesmusteitherhaveallActive-PassiveorallActive-ActiveMUXTransitioncards.Theycannotbemixedinanarray.

• Toachieveoptimumperformance,slotsshouldbepopulatedinthefollowingsequence,ifallslotsarenotbeingpopulated(seeFigure6):

Thecontrollerisconnectedtothenetworkforout-of-bandmanagementandmonitoringviatheRJ4510/100BaseTEthernetport,usingtheembeddedStorViewManagementmoduleandsoftware.

EnsurethatthehostcomputerisconnectedeitherdirectlytoorviaaswitchedLANtotheEthernetportontheRAIDControllerusingashieldedCat5cable.

Important: Only shielded Cat 5 (or better) cables should be used for connection to the Ethernet port for EMC conformance.

Caution: All drive slots must have either a Drive Carrier or DummyCarriermoduleinstalled.Noslotshouldbeleftempty.

6 Completing the Installation

OnfirststartupoftheembeddedStorViewmodule,youwillneedtoconfigurethenetworksettings.BydefaulttheembeddedmodulewilllookforaDHCPservertoobtainanIPaddress.Ifoneisnotfound,itwillsearchtodetermineifanIPaddresshadbeenpreviouslyassigned.

Ifanaddresswasnotpreviouslyassigned,thenthesystemdefaultstoanIPaddressof:

10.1.1.5forthelowerRAIDController(Controller0(A)) 10.1.1.6fortheupperRAIDController(Controller1(B)) 10.1.1.7ifanerrorisdetected SubnetMaskis255.0.0.0

Duringtheprocessofconfiguringanembeddedmodule,youwillberequiredtoentera“new”passwordandconfirmthatpassword.Thedefaultpasswordis“password.”Seestep6laterintheprocedure.

TheembeddedmoduleisidentifiedbyitsMACandIPaddress.Itmaybemorehelpfulduringsetuptoconfigureoneembeddedmoduleatatime.YouwillfindtheMACandIPaddressbyaccessingtheVT-100RAIDConfigurationUtility,selectingDiagnosticsthenchoosingStorView Embedded Module Support. SelectEnter StorView Embedded Module Menu ModeandselectingView Network Settings.

Setting up the Embedded StorView Module: Microsoft Windows

1.InserttheSoftwareandManualsDiscintoyourCDdrive.Theautorunprogramwillautomaticallystartthenavigationmenu.

2.ClicktheEmbedded StorView Setup Wizardlinktobegintheconfiguration.

3.Youarepresentedwitha“Welcome”screenandinstructionstoproceed.Reviewtheinformation.

4.ClicktheNextbutton.TheprogramwillbeginsearchingforEmbeddedStorViewModules.

ThoseEmbeddedModuleswiththeirdefaultpasswordintactwillbedisplayedwiththeirMACaddressinanUninitializedSystemslistwindow.

5.Fromthe“UninitializedSystems”screen,selecttheMACaddressoftheEmbeddedModuleyouwishtoconfigure.

IfyouwishtouseaDHCPservertoassignyourIPaddress,clickthecheckboxUse DHCP.

Ifyouwishtomanuallyconfigureyournetworksetting,enterthecorrectinformationintheappropriatefields.

6.Entera“new”passwordandconfirmthenewpassword.ClicktheConfigurebutton.

7.IfyouhaveadditionalUninitializedSystems,selectthenextMACaddressandchoosetheappropriatesettingsfromtheprevioussteps.

OnceyouhavecompletedconfiguringalltheUninitializedSystemsandhaveclickedtheConfigure button,thewizardwilldisplayapopupmessageindicatingallsystemshavebeenconfigured.Itwillthenre-scanforUninitializedSystemsandifnonearefound,youwillbetakentotheInitializedSystemsscreen.

However,ifyouwishtoonlyconfigureoneUnitializedSystem,theoneyouareconfiguring,andchoosenottoconfigureanyotherdiscoveredUninitializedSystem,clicktheNextbutton.Youwillreceiveapromptthatyouhavenotconfiguredallsystems.ClicktheYESbuttontocontinueorNOtocancelandreturntotheUninitializedSystemsscreen.

BeforepoweringuptheRS-4835-F4-5404Eand/orRS-4835-E3-XPNenclosures,pleaseensurethatallthemodulesarefirmlyseatedintheircorrectbays.Allthreepowersuppliesmustbeinstalledinordertopoweruptheenclosure.

1.Applypowertothepowersource.

2. PlacethepowersupplyswitchesintheONposition.

3.PowerONtheHostsystem.

3.AllLEDsontheFrontPanelshouldbeilluminatedwhentheenclosure’spowerisactivated.RefertotheInstallationandUser’sGuidefordetailsonLEDdescriptions.

Warning: The RS-1220-F4-5412E or RS-1220-E3-XPN enclosure MUST be grounded before applying power.

Caution:Donotoperatethesystemuntiltheambienttemperatureiswithinthespecifiedoperatingrange.Ifthedriveshavebeenrecentlyinstalled,ensuretheyhavehadtimetoacclimatizebeforeoperatingthem.

Important: If the main power source is lost for any reason, upon restoration of power, the enclosure will re-start automatically.

NOTE:Thepowercordsareusedasthemaindisconnect,thePowerOn/Standbyswitchdoesnotfulfillthisrequirement.

8.SelecttheMACaddressoftheInitializedSystemyouwishtostartandclicktheLaunch button.StorViewwillstartup.

9.Yourwebbrowserwillopenwithaloginscreen.EntertheloginnameandpasswordthenclickOK.StorViewwillopeninthebrowserattheMainscreen.

NOTE:IfyouarefinishedstartingupEmbeddedModules,besuretoselecttheactiveEmbeddedStorViewSetupWizardwindowintheWindowsTaskBarandclicktheClose button.

4.ExecutetheSetupTool.Fromthecommandprompt,type: ./esvsetupcl-linux Embedded StorView Setup Tool. v1.0 Entering Menu Mode.

5.Followtheonscreenprompts.Attheconclusionofthesetupyouwillbeinstructedonhowtoproceed.StorViewwillstartwithinyourwebbrowser.

Starting StorViewStorViewisstartedbylaunchingyourwebbrowserandenteringtheIPaddressofthelocalhostortheembeddedmodulefollowedby“:9292.”Formoreinformation,refertotheStorViewStorageManagementSoftwareRAIDModuleUser’sGuide.
