YEAR 11 REVISION SCHEDULES 2019
What is this booklet? This booklet is a prepared Revision Schedule for each of the subjects that you will be sitting a GCSE Exam
in. Each subject gives you a breakdown of what topics you should revise each week as well as a guide of
how your teachers will be checking that the revision has taken place.
Why is it useful? Year 11s often feel overwhelmed with volume of revision that they will have to undertake before the
exam. This often leads to students missing topics or running out of time. These schedules will mean that
you can chip away at your revision, little and often, and cover the content you need to know in order to
feel confident before the exam. The schedules will also help you to feel on top of your revision. In addition,
students often spend time trying to find key information and resources to help them revise. These
schedules signpost you to websites and pages in revision guides to help you to focus on learning and
recapping the important information. You can also keep this electronically and use the hyperlinks to go
straight to the important webpages.
How to use this booklet? Use it as checklist to tick off what you have learnt each week. Go through the schedules at the beginning of
the week and plan your week out by allocating different days for a subject/subjects. Carry out the revision
using the revision techniques you have learnt in school (see Revision Folders and the website for more
information) and make sure you do plenty of quizzing/self-quizzing to check that you have retained the
knowledge.
If you have any more questions or if you are uncertain about the information in this book please speak to
either your class teacher, tutor or Head of Year.

English Teachers of Year 11 GCSE English classes will be issuing revision schedules and homework tasks which will be personalised for their own teaching groups, as some are following a different path through the specification and some students have already completed the Literature exam. At this point, all Year 11 students have been taught skills and processes for English Language Paper 1 and Paper 2 and they have completed study of their Literature texts.
English Language Paper 1 Explorations in Creative Reading and Writing
English Language Paper 2 Writers’ Viewpoints and Perspectives
Section A: An extract from a fiction text, usually from the 20th or 21st century. Four questions, requiring students to extract information from the text, analyse language and structure and comment on viewpoints.
Section A: Two extracts from non-fiction texts, one from the 20th or 21st century and the other from the 19th century. Four questions, requiring students to identify true and false statements, comment on the differences between the two texts, analyse language in one of the texts and comment on the writers’ perspectives and methods.
Section B: An extended piece of creative writing, either narrative or descriptive.
Section B: An extended piece of non-fiction writing in a specified format such as a magazine article, speech or letter to express a viewpoint.

One essay, responding to a theme or character based extract from the novel and then an analysis of that theme or character In the novel as a whole.
A choice of two essay questions (no extract) about themes and characters in the play.
One poem from a selection of 15 studied is printed on the exam paper. One essay with an analysis of the printed poem and comparison with another of the student’s choice.
A two part question, firstly analysing an unseen poem printed on the paper in an extended response and then comparing this to a further unseen printed poem in a shorter response.
Revision resources online include GCSE Pod, Seneca and YouTube, which has a whole range of films produced by Mr Bruff for all of the Language and Literature topics (search YouTube and type in Mr Bruff followed by the topic required eg. Mr Bruff Poppies, to revise the Anthology poem “Poppies”). Copies of revision guides and workbooks are available through WisePay for all topics, as well as the text of “Macbeth”. Teachers are communicating with students through Google Classroom, Show My Homework and GCSE Pod to set tasks; please review Show My Homework for full details of weekly revision tasks being set.
As each revision topic is completed, teachers will be testing this by using past exam papers in timed conditions in class. Formal mock exams will be taking place for Language Paper 1 and 2 and Literature Paper 1 after February half term.
