Last week it seemed thatall may be lost in the bidto have one fashion week

in the Capital, as the Fashionand Design PromotionCouncil (FDPC) announcedthe India Fashion and DesignWeek; and FDCI seemedunwilling to compromise onits demands. But, whiletorrential downpour broughtDelhi to a halt on Monday, the fashion fraternity madeprogress when teams fromFDCI and FDPCmet at TheGrand to iron out issues. The arduous meeting was

attended by Vijay Singh,Secretary General and CEOof FDPC, Sunil Sethi,President, FDCI and senior

designers from both campsincluding Tarun Tahiliani,Rajesh Pratap Singh,Raghavendra Rathore,Manish Arora, JJ Valaya,Ashish Soni, Rina Dhaka,Ranna Gill, Leena Singh,Rohit Gandhi and AnjanaBhargava, who debated onissues with Singh and Sethito arrive at a consensus.Issues discussed at the

meeting were:■ Term of the

FDCI-FDPC pact■ Title Sponsorship■ Conditions for FDCI-

FDPC to be on equal footingThe FDPC had earlier

sought a five-year pact withFDCI, which was shot downby FDCI members. Now,alternative time-spans are

being considered to arrive ona mutually-agreeable term.Next came the issue of the

title sponsor. The FDPC putforth Sahara Group’s name, which FDCI rejected as it hasa contractual agreement withWills Lifestyle (ITC) for threeyears. Even though the FDPCCEO and many designersargued in favour of Sahara(if it offers more financialsupport), a majority ofdesigners (including thoseconsidered part of FDPC)preferred Wills Lifestyle asthe title sponsor. However, talks are still open to inductSahara as the sponsor fornew fashion properties. The FDCI and FDPC have

also agreed to be on an equalfooting for the upcoming

fashion week.When contacted, Sethi said

that FDCI “finally sees lightat the end of the tunnel”. Onthere being a single fashionweek, he said, “There are toomany slips between the cupand the lip. But the possibili-ty of a joint FDCI-FDPCfashion week is high.”Vijay Singh of FDPC, said,

“The meeting had a positiveoutcome; most issues weresorted amicably. Now alldesigners have cometogether for a single fashionweek under FDPC.”If the meeting on Monday

night is not subject to anymore unexpected flip-flops,a formal announcementis now expected inapproximately 10 days.
