Our SC State Adopted Standards…

are a real-world approach to learning and teaching.

are consistent learning expectations for all students.

have a greater emphasis on critical topics.

The purpose of our standards is…

…to raise the bar in all grades to ensure that our students are receiving a relevant and rigorous education.

How does this impact my 5th

Grader? Students will be better prepared to meet the demands of college

and/or the work place in the 21st century.

Students will be expected to read more difficult texts sooner and discuss what they read at a more complex level.

Students will be required to read and write critically in all subject areas.

Students will use reading and writing as tools for learning in science, social studies, and math.

What changes can I expect?

How can I help my child to be successful in ELA?
