TO BECOME A BETTER DIGITAL PARENT.

6 WAYS

Parenting in the digital age is

NO EASY TASK.

With problems that range from cyber bullying to apps linked to pedophiles,

parents have their hands full.

So how do you protect a child who is more tech savvy than you are?

Here are a few tips. Let’s discuss…

1. COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY

Show interest in your child's online activities. Get involved. Quiz them about their favorite websites. Figure out who they are talking to, and what they are

doing online.

2. DON’T REACT IMPULSIVELY

Advise your kids against posting content on the internet, that would

come back to haunt them in the future, when they

least expect it.

3. TIME LIMITS AND

RESTRICTIONS

Measures are an indication of a healthy lifestyle. So make sure your child understands that. Study their

daily routine and strike a fine balance between their fun and games.

Be in the know.

4. STAY INVOLVED

Equip yourself technically and mentally to handle any situation that may arise. You need to be prepared in case of an emergency. Your child will look to you for support and you

will have to come good.

5. BE A ROLE MODEL

Lead by example. Assign yourself time limits. Keep

your phone and tablet away from places in the house where you would

spend time with your family.

6. BE PROACTIVE

Make sure your browsers are up to scratch, you have got your virus checks up to date and you have got your safe

search on. It’s these little things that go a long way.
