Bringing people in the UK and Haryana together

The Work of the Buwan Kothi International Trust

The story begins in 2005 with the wedding of Gilly Mundy and Debbie Quargnolo in Buwan Kothi

a village in Haryana in northern India

An isolated rural communityof around 36 farming families, which lacks many basic amenities

such as a school or a local doctor

Visitors from the UKwere overwhelmed by the warmthand generosity of local people

and decided to give something back

By raising fundsto improve education opportunities, health and the environment

in collaboration with local people

Gilly’s sudden deathin March 2007, aged only 36, gave us renewed energy and a plan:

to build a school named in his memory

In the course of one yearthrough sponsored eventsand individual donations

we raised over £52,000

Allowing us to pay forwork to be completed,by April 2008

on phase 1 of our major project

The Gilly Mundy Memorial Community School

a non-profit school with 200+ pupils

benefiting the wider community

Over the next year we aimto complete work on the schooland start work on a Resource Centre

and schoolchildren in Britain

And strengthen tiesbetween the children at the Gilly Mundy Memorial Community School
