Enterprise: To Boldly Go

Today’s Goals

• Increase knowledge of Enterprise “lingo” and layout

• Learn more about searching in Enterprise

• See what patrons can do in their accounts

How do patrons use our catalogs?

Type of Search

BrowseKeyword

eLibrary vs Enterprise• Main difference? Enterprise’s modern search engine,

offering relevant results for your patrons.

• Book river of eye catching new items.

• Place hold, Text this, Staff View (MARC) buttons placed better, easier to use

• “Find more on these topics” link gone

• Kids’ library gone—working on creating links to juvenile items

Searching• Modern search engine, more like Amazon--not authority driven,

not Boolean based

• “fuzzy” searching, “auto complete” as patrons type searches

• Advanced search for phrases, formats, include or exclude search terms

• Search targets vs. search limits

Targets

Limits

Faceted Searching

• Patrons limit searches using facets, which work as filters

• Facets come from the catalog and are only as good as what we input

• Might want to limit how many facets appear as options in the search results screen.

Things to Consider

• If you don’t have a website, you can use Enterprise as your homepage, with links that open into “rooms” specific to your library

• Who will be in charge of customization at your library?

• Enterprise is an end-user product designed for patrons. Staff’s main way to search is still WorkFlows.
