Being connected and being able to access any information at any time is a powerful learning tool

Students no longer have to recite facts and figures

They no longer remember and recall

Students can access facts in a fraction of a second

They should be using this information to develop higher order thinking skills.

This is 21st century education.

REINFORCEMENT• Internet is a public place• Guidelines needed for Internet use, both at home & school• Adult supervision is essential:

• Need to know student usernames & passwords• Online profiles set up with adult supervision• Students are monitored by parents/teachers• Adult supervision for IM, emailing & online games• Need permission to give personal information

• Internet friendships MUST be monitored by parents• Web cams only used with parental/teacher permission• MS Children should not be communicating in chat rooms &

chat functions attached with games, social media, etc. need supervision

REINFORCEMENT

• Students need to learn:• Importance of building a positive Internet presence• What is placed on Internet stays forever• What messages should be responded to• When it's appropriate to respond to messages• How to respond to inappropriate content• To talk about Internet usage with parents/teachers
