Noun

• A noun is a word used as the name of aperson, place or thing.

– Example

• Everest is the highest peak in the world.

• Gandhiji is the father of the nation.

Kinds of Nouns

• Proper Nouns.

• Common Nouns.

• Collective Nouns.

• Abstract Nouns.

• Material Nouns.

Proper Noun

• A proper noun is the name of some particular person, place or thing.

• Example.

– Asoka, Calcutta, Ganges etc.

Common Noun

• A common noun is the name given in commonto every person or thing of the same class orkind.

• Example.

– Boy, tree, horse, king, town etc.

Collective Noun

• A collective noun is the name of a group ofpersons or things taken together as a singlewhole.

• Example.

– Crowd, army, team, family, assembly etc.

Abstract Noun

• A abstract noun is the name of quality, state or action of a person or thing.

• Example.

– Goodness, Kindness, Poverty, Laughter etc .

Material Noun

• A material noun is the name of the material out of which a thing is made.

• Example.

– Gold, Wood, Stone, Iron etc .
