The images on the following slide show different film genres. The images I have collected are typical to the genre so it is easy to link up what images come under where. For example, for horror I have gathered images such as a knife, a scary costume and an image with a red background to show the danger within the genre. Another example is comedy… The images I selected are of a funny clown and some of the most hilarious actors (Will Ferrel, Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, etc.) who are popular in comedy films. I did this because these particular images indicate and connect to the film genre easily.

I will use a variety of camera angles when I produce my own short film as I think it makes it more intriguing and keeps the viewers attention because the screen is always changing and it’s never just in one position. Due to this I have shown a wide range of camera angles I would like to use on the following slide. Certain angles can interpret different meanings within different films: For example, in a horror film, an over the shoulder shot is portrayed as creepy and horrifying in the way that you might not know what’s there depending on which way you're facing.

For each film genre there are typical characters, costumes and props that coincide with the theme so particular things symbolise specific genres. For horror, I think the common costumes and props are: creepy masks, little girls that are often possessed, knives/axes/guns and dark, gloomy but broad clothing to emphasise the creepy theme. For films that contain romance, you often see a lot of intimate contact, perhaps kissing in the rain with a gooey romance, the use of a ring (engagement/wedding) and the typical cheating man.

Horror being a very broad genre with many aspects I have chosen it to dominate my short film. Along side of this I may include comedy or romance or both amongst horror to keep this exciting and unique, however, I have decided that the genre of horror will be my main focus whilst producing the film because I enjoy watching them so it will be fascinating and interesting to make.

Horror is a great genre to choose as it varies in costume depending on your theme (dull or bright). It has a set colour scheme (red/black), it has set lighting (low key), settings can vary (e.g. in a haunted house/dark alley –both at night-time) and props vary widely however they’re more likely to be weapons (guns/knives/axes).
