World
Trade w/ Native Americans
The French were very interested in economic possibilities in America
Natural resources like fur and fish provided trading opportunities with Native Americans
Missionaries followed the traders to minister to Native Americans and convert them to Christianity
Louis Joliet and Jacques Marquette
Joliet (explorer) and Marquette (priest) traveled the Mississippi River via canoe with the hopes of finding precious metals
They were looking for a NW passage to the Pacific but soon found out the river led to the Gulf of Mexico
Robert de La Salle
Followed the Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico
Claimed the region where the MS River reached the Gulf of Mexico as “Louisiana” in honor of Louis XIV

Write a letter to a friend back in France trying to persuade them to come to America. Include as much content as possible from today's lesson, be creative, and write at least two paragraphs.
