Begin by looking at the publication information at the beginning of the article. If you see a specific publication date with a month/year or season/year, it is a journal; if you see just a year, it is a reference book in this database. In example, we are working with a reference book.

Getting Started in NoodleTools/NoodleBib
• Log into your account• Open the list you have created for this
research project/assignment• Have your information source available and
at your fingertips (in this case, it will be the live version of the article in the GALE LRC database).

Starting the Wizard
• Choose “online database” from the dropdown menu; it will be under “electronic resources”
• Press, “create citation”• Leave the radio button at “yes”• For this example, select “reference source”• Press “next”

“Tell Us More About This Source”
• You will leave the radio button at “encyclopedia” or “biographical dictionary” for all reference sources in the GALE LRC database.
• Leave the radio button at an “encyclopedia article or entry”
• For “Is the online material duplicated from a printed work?”, you normally will select “yes.”
• Select “next”

Adding Basic Information
• You will now enter as much publication information as possible
• Fields with an asterisk (*) must be completed
• Rarely will you ever have the information for every information field in NoodleTools/NoodleBib; they try to give you as many options as possible.

Author of the Article, Article Title, Reference Book Title
In this example, Specifying: Black Women Writing the American Experience is the title of the reference book. Be sure to hit “add” to make the name “stick”.

Page Numbers, Editor, Volume
If a name has an initial, be sure to put a period after it when entering in NoodleTools; be sure to hit “add” to make the name “stick”.

Name of Database
The database name is in italic print. As you start to type it into NoodleTools/NoodleBib, it will pick up the name and autocomplete for you.

URL• Remember to look for the text link that says
“bookmark” or “infomark” at the top of the page in GALE databases
• Open the “bookmark”• Copy and paste the URL into the URL field in
NoodleTools/NoodleBib

Final Steps
• Check for MLA style errors. If any items are flagged in red, ask your teacher what he/she prefers you do---sometimes you may need t make MLA style corrections, but at other times, your teacher may tell you to ignore the suggested change.
