The role and objectives of WP2

•  WP2 is a connecting link between pedagogical WP1 and technological WP3

•  Focus on conceptualising the iCamp Space: an open virtual learning environment that integrates heterogeneous learning systems and services and fosters collaboration

•  Selecting, adapting, testing iCamp Space Building Blocks

•  Investigating issues related to trust management, privacy, DRM in iCamp Space

iCamp Space: an activity space

•  iCamp Space is not another Web portal: it’s an activity space (ecology), meaning space (ontology)

•  Activity system: people, goals, mediators (Engeström)

Learning activity patterns

•  Concept of affordances: from ecological psychology (Gibson 1979) to HCI

•  Affordances match with activity patterns (recurring and re-usable activity schemas)

•  Example list of learning activity patterns: –  Learner searches for a research paper –  Creating and editing an artifact –  Facilitator forms small groups within a study group –  Learners design together a graphic artifact –  Learner interacts with a multimedia artifact –  Study group negotiates a time for meeting –  Learners submit the results of group work –  Learner perform self-analysis and reflection –  Learner takes a test –  Facilitator assesses submitted assingments
