WHAT IS THE LATVIAN SONG AND DANCE FESTIVAL?

The Latvian Song and Dance Festival (Latvian: Vispārējie latviešu Dziesmu un Deju svētki) is one of the largest amateur choral events in the world and an important event in Latvian culture and social life.

The Song and Dance Celebration has also been included in the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Latvian Song and Dance Festival is taking part

once in five years since 1873

The festivities bring together more than 30 000 participants – singers, dancers, wind orchestra musicians, folklore groups, amateur

theatres, studios of applied and fine arts, and others.

The festival lasts for one week, at the same time happens concerts in the Riga streets

The best in this festival is Celebration procession when the viewers welcome the participants

Festival end is a final concert at the Mežaparks open air stage

with about 13 000 participants

WHAT IS THE LATVIAN SCHOOL YOUTH SONG AND DANCE FESTIVAL?

The Latvian School Youth Song and Dance Festival is the largest festival to involve Latvian children, youth culture, and art, and is held every five years.

The tradition has kept growing, and in the Tenth Latvian School Youth Song Festival had a total of 30,975 participants from 1,305

collectives.
