reading mileage –

especially for boys

appropriate books

increasing their confidence

It measures students’ reading

comprehension to gauge

the text difficulty of books

It has been tested and trialed over

many years - 15 years, 400,000

students

Getting Started - The Lexile Test

It checks comprehension of a variety

of passages from books

to judge the appropriate level

Students are all registered to the

online site: cost = $4.50

for whole time at school

Students sit a Lexile Test of

20-40 multiple choice questions.

Level of difficulty adjusts according to

whether answers are correct or not

The test provides each student with

an individualised "Lexile Level"

Students choose books within a range

of 50 above and below their level.

Students then select from an

individualised book list matched to

their level and chosen interests.

Students earn points for successful

quizzes and a cumulative record of

words read, to eventually become

millionaires!

After a period of time selected by

each school, the Lexile level is

retested to assess student gains.

Success, matched interests

and mileage promotes

a love of reading
