Which Social Media channels to choose?

Only open a channel if you can maintain it

Do not solely depend on volunteers & interns to maintain those channels

Experience and/or training in online

communication is a must!

+ 5 Hours extra Weeklyfor experimentation with new tools, such as; Pinterest, Google+, Foursquare, Tumblr, Razoo, etc.

Make a realistic job description for your social

media or community manager!

If you can't maintain all channels, it's better to open

few of them and do those well than to do bad on all

Yes :)

good picture resolution!

resolution is not good! best results at 404px by 404px

never post a photo without an introduction text that

If your picture does not fit in a “wall” picture of 404px by 404px, make it a

“highlight” picture of 843 px by 403px

Wipe out the link(it’s double information!).

content

Diverse but “SERIOUS” news from TE’s activities, TE’s members, TE’s

stakeholders,...

miércoles 17 de octubre de 2012

Distinguish between your home & profile timeline

Just like Facebook, your Home Timeline is where all

“posts” (tweets) FROM YOUR TWITTER FRIENDS come

together

Just like Facebook, your Profile Timeline is the “wall”

where all YOUR posts (tweets) can be viewed publicly

miércoles 17 de octubre de 2012

UNLIKE Facebook, your Twitter “friends”

(those you decided to follow) will not have to accept your

“friend request”

UNLIKE Facebook, your Twitter “friends”

will not see your “posts” (tweets) on their “wall” (their Home

Timeline), UNLESS they decided to become one of your

“followers”

“following” = Twitter “FRIENDS” = the people you decided to follow

Distinguish between friends & followers

view the result: browse back to your profile page

miércoles 17 de octubre de 2012

Use hashtags

a HASHTAG is always preceded by the # sign

(without a space between # and the abbreviation!)

click a HASHTAG and view all tweets that include that

hashtag

miércoles 17 de octubre de 2012

Use mentions

a MENTION is always preceded by the @ sign

(without a space between @ and the abbreviation!)

click a MENTION and view the profile page of that

twitter account

miércoles 17 de octubre de 2012

Write a reply

when a tweet STARTS with a mention, it’s called a “REPLY” (it means you are directing yourself PUBLICLY to this person, in front of

an audience!)

miércoles 17 de octubre de 2012

Write a direct message

a “DIRECT MESSAGE” is a PRIVATE message (as if it was an email!), and can

ONLY be sent to people who decided to follow you

you have to manually fill the Twitter account name (without the @ sign) of the

follower you want to send a DIRECT MESSAGE to

unlike emails, DIRECT MESSAGES can only contain 140 characters!

Create private & public lists

LISTS are used for three different purposes and can either be PUBLIC or PRIVATE

All lists that appear on someone’s profile page are PUBLIC lists

a PRIVATE list only can be viewed by yourself (does NOT appear on

your profile page)

the first purpose is to PRIVATELY classify twitter

accounts into different categories (as if you would put them into “folders”), to filter out their

tweets in a timelinenote that it is not necessary to follow a

twitter account to be able to classify it into a list

miércoles 17 de octubre de 2012

the second purpose is to classify twitter accounts into different categories, but in a

PUBLIC wayagain: note that it is

not necessary to follow a twitter account to be able

to classify it into a list

if someone adds you to a PUBLIC list they created, you

will be able to view this through the “Member of” tab

miércoles 17 de octubre de 2012

the third purpose is  instead of being added by the creator to

a PUBLIC LIST, you may SUBSCRIBE yourself to an

existing public list
