What is a MOOC?MOOCs is an internet connect learning
experience which enables large amounts of learners to access their learning materials and everything they need digitally, online and free of charge.
Simply a design introduced to better the system of teaching and learning, the new invention which is totally different from the process of one finding a teacher standing in front of the learners/students in class teaching ,and learners/students listening and taking notes.
History:The acronym was created by DAVE
CORMEIR UPEI’s Manager of Web Communications and Innovations and a prominent blogger and podcaster on education technology.
It came out of a podcast hosted with DR GEORGE SIEMENs of the University of Athabasca and Stephen Downes of the NRC, who together offered the first MOOC in 2008 through the University of Manitoba.
History cont:They opened the course online and
immediately 2300 people joined and all of this was done in 2008 and they opened everything the course outlines and materials.
2010 – video’s about MOOCs added to Youtube by Dave Cormier.
Pros and Cons:Pros Involves every student, and allows one to interact with
the new technology. It result in one having a lot of friends. Creates effectiveness in a classroom environment.CONSHuge absenteeism of students.Addiction from other resources found under
MOOCs. It also result in other students not co-operating with
the others in a group project, because they will all get a same mark.
Types of MOOCs:
Language; Introduction to public speaking.
Computer skills; User experience of the web.
Life Sciences; Genetics in science.
Business and management.
My field of interest:My field of interests are Accounting
and tourism. The MOOC I am going to do is a
course in first aid training. Most schools require that a teacher has some basic first-aid knowledge for when a situation calls for it in the classroom.
