“Prepare for Flooding Disaster”

The flood situation in several provinces such as Ayutthaya,

Nakhon Sawan, Lopburi, Ang Thong,

Pathum Thani, etc is damaging and people have suffered a

lot. Bangkok is a risk area as well and some residences are flood victims.

In order to prepare for flood disaster that may occur soon at

Thung Phayathai community of Rajthevi District. Child

Safety Promotion and Injury Prevention Research Center

(CSIP), Faculty of Medicine, Ramathibodi Hospital, Thai

Health Promotion Foundation, 12 communities of Thung

Phayathai sub-district, and related agencies have held the meeting to prepare for flood disaster in the area.

Objectives

To cope with the flood disaster

Methods

1.Hold meeting of work plan and

establish a working group to

prepare and surveillance.

Methods

2.To facilitate the community map to

access and help the victims, produce

media leaflets, posters, educate people in

communities, survey risk areas, and

make symbolic signs at the houses that

have children, the elderly, and the

disabled.

3.Prepare an evacuation area, rescue

materials for victims, and consumer

goods for shelters.

4.Coordinate with other agencies both within and outside the

area to assist the victims.

5.Have emergency centers outside the area for consumer

goods, food, and medicines.

Results

Communities can cope with disasters that occur. There is an

operational plan and clear responsibilities, and promptness of

management and surveillance.

Results

People in the comamunity can execute disaster management

plan and establish a team to help the victims in other areas.

Conclusions

Phayathai community does not experience flooding.

However, it is preparing to expand operations and

knowledge management, presentation of other tools for

other areas to learn and apply to their areas.
