RACCOONS

DESCRIPTION

Raccoons are good climbers and

swimmers. Also, raccoons can climb down a

tree head first. Raccoons’ tails help them

balance. Also, they wrap their tails around

themselves like a blanket when they sleep.

Raccoons are curious and clever. Also

raccoons can open anything with their paws.

HABITAT

Raccoons live in forests and near water.

Raccoons sleep during day. Also the den is

made from a hollow log and tree stump.

Raccoons also live in cites near people.

FOOD

Raccoons eat just about anything. Raccoons

eat fish, crayfish, frogs, turtles, garter snakes,

snails, berries, nuts, seeds, insects, corn on a

cob, vegetables, cereal, rabbits, grasshoppers,

slugs, worms, shellfish, mussels and oysters.

ENEMIES

Raccoons are afraid of wolves, red foxes, lynxes,

coyotes, dogs and people. Raccoons climb trees to

escape enemies.

BABIES

Raccoons have 3 or 4 babies in the spring also

babies are called kittens. Kittens cannot see or hear

when they are born.

INTERESTING FACTS

Raccoons can see at night. Also, raccoons’ eyes can shine at

night. Raccoons have a good sense of touch and hearing. Raccoons

whistle, growl and chatter with their teeth.
