Sloths

Slow animal

• Sloths are the world’s slowest mammals.

Their lives

• Although we can’t be sure, Sloths have been estimated to live for around 25-30 years.

Types

• There are 2 different types of sloth:

• Two-toed sloths

• Three-toed sloths

Two-toed Sloths

• Two-toed sloths are more common and live in countries in Central and South America, including Costa Rica and Panama.

What do they eat?

• Two-toed sloths like to eat fruits, plants and leaves, as well as insects and bugs from the jungle. Sometimes, they even eat birds eggs, rats and small mice if they can catch them!

Endangered!• Three-toed sloths are much rarer. They have been called critically

endangered.

• They are also smaller, slower and eat a much more limited diet.

• They only eat leaves found in the jungle and attached bugs.

Hunters

• There are also many less • three-toed sloths because of human threats and

predators.

• Now they mainly live on an island in Panama that is protected as a wildlife refuge. Although the island has no inhabitants, visitors such as local people, fishermen and lobster divers hunt the sloths and sell their meat.
