Podium panic

Dealing with podium panic

Before Presentation During Presentation After Presentation

• Check out the room in advance

• Concentrate on the message

• Rehearsal is the most required thing before giving a presentation

• • Analyze your audience

Before The Presentation

• What are their names, backgrounds, reasons for attending, etc?

• What are their big concerns ?

• What are their objectives, or hot buttons, fears or attitude?

• And more importantly…..

“How much do they need?”

Analyzing your audience

• Begin in your comfort zone

• Give well prepared and small intro

• Eye contact

• Pitch or Tone

During the presentation

• Substandard Grammar • Pronunciation

• Articulation

• Rate of speech

• Emphasis

• Vocalized pauses ( um, ah, you know, I mean, oh, like)

And believe that, “They want you to succeed. They really do.”

• Stay in the same place or rock and sway

• Lean on table or wall and come too close to mice

• Use single gesture repeatedly or cross arms

• Chew gum or candy

• Bite or examine nails or crack knuckles

• Click or tap pencil or pointer or shuffle notes repeatedly

What not to do?

After the Presentation

“Does anyone have any questions for my answers?”

The Q&A round is in a way beginning of a new interactive presentation

Opportunity to make a point

Most battles are either WON or LOST here

The Q & A round

• Listen to the entire question

• Pause and Think

• Credit the person for asking the question

• Respond to the question honestly and in the best way you can

THE RULE- Never argue with any member of the audience!

• Head on to the next question by asking them “Does that answer your question?", "Is that the kind of information you were looking for?“

Thank you
