This campaign was officially launched on 2 October 2014 at Rajghat, New
Delhi, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself wielded broom and
cleaned a road. The campaign is India's biggest ever cleanliness drive and
3 million government employees and schools and colleges students of India
participated in this event.The mission was started by Narendra Modi, the
Prime Minister of India, nominating nine famous personalities for this
campaign, and they take up the challenge and nominate nine more people
and so on(like the branching of a tree). It has been carried forward since
then with famous people from all walks of life joining it.

Clean technology is touted as the technology of the future that provides solutions to many of the modern day environmental problems. It consists of energy generation, water preservation, water purification, sewage treatment, fuel gas treatment, renewable energy, solid waste management, etc. that aims to produce less toxic emissions and reduce waste. While national policy on environment is the responsibility of the Ministry, provincial government is responsible for translating these guidelines into the regional context. The 12 provincial governments develop regional policy and draw up regional plans setting out the zoning guidelines for the location and expansion of residential, industrial and commercial areas within cities, towns and villages. Environmental management policy is related to spatial planning and directed to creating a healthy environment with clean air, water and soil by regulating emissions from road transport, industry and other sources.
