Session Aims

This session will explore the opportunities provided by OASISplus and Turnitin for peer review. The session will focus on the use of PeerMark within Turnitin and Oasisplus discussions to facilitate the provision of peer to peer feedback.

Peer Assessment ?

“Peer assessment is the assessment of student work by other students, This might be used for formative feedback or summative grading purposes.”

Benefits

•Help students to better understand assessment criteria.

•Gives students a sense of ownership over assessment

•encouraging students to be more involved and take more responsibility for their learning

•encourages critical analysis of student work, students focus on feedback not grade

•Increasing feedback to students while reducing marking loads for staff

Top Tips

•Plan carefully in advance and prepare students.

•Engage students in a discussion around assessment and the marking criteria.

•Use feedback to encourage a sense of reciprocal responsibilities and benefits in the process.

•Be clear about all stages of the assessment process including your role as a lecturer.

•Try and build peer assessment into the curriculum.

•Take the leap and try it.
