• How much is this purse?/ are these socks?

PRICES:

$1.99= one dollar and 99 cents.

• How much does this cost? and How much is this?, are used to ask about fares.

Adjectives for prices: expensive, cheap.Expressions: that’s too much, that’s a lot. It’s (really / kind of) expensive. It’s (really / kind of) cheap. That’s too much. Is there a discount?, to ask for a price reduction.

Clark: How can I help you?

Sara: Well… Yes, I am looking for a jacket.

Clark: All right. Is that a present?

Sara: No, I will travel to Alaska.

Clark: How much do you want to spend?

Sara: 100 dollars.

Clark: Let’s check. I guess that what we have here is more expensive. 300 Dollars is the cheapest jacket we have for sale.

Sara: Oh my gosh. How much is this jacket?

Clark: 400 Dollars.

Sara: It looks good but it is expensive. Can you give me a discount?, I want to buy it anyway.

Clark: Sure, you can bring it for $399.99.

Sara: Let me see… Ok, I will buy it.

Conversation strategies.

In conversation…Expressions like: Yeah, uh-huh, Ok, all right, sure, fine, etc.,

are used to express agreement and say yes.

Expressions like: huh, oh, wow, really?, are you serious?, for real?, oh my gosh, Oh my God, my lord, oh my lord, seriously?, are used to express that you are surprised, shocked, happy, mad or

angry.

Expressions like: Well, let’s check, let me think, let’s see, um, I guess, etc., are used to express doubt, to express that you will check something, analyse the situation, and study it., they are also used to

express that you are not sure.

EXAMPLES:

A: Do you have money in your credit card to buy this purse?B: Let me check… No, I don’t.A: Oh, this is sad. Do you have cash?B: Uh-huh. 350 dollars. A: Wow, really? Let’s buy two purses.

Grammar. Go to, Travel to, Go out with, Go out to, Go out for, and Hang out with, are the most common verbs that are used to express that you are having a plan and that you are going to execute it.• Example: I will go to a museum; I will hang out with my friends; I

will go out for dinner.

I’m having, I will, we will, there is, there are, etc., are expression that people use when they refer to a plan or event they will have.• Example: I’m having a baby shower on Monday.

Ordinal numbers: 1st , 2nd , 3rd, are used to talk about dates and days or the degree and frequency of an event. • Example: 1st congress; I’m having a doctor’s appointment on

march 12nd. • Let’s : it is used to invite people to do something.• Would you like to…? Do you want to…?: are used to invite

people, in a formal way.

• Garu: Hello Naru, I’m going to Alabama.• Naru: Awesome, what will you do there?• Garu: There is going to be a concert

there, Britney Spears will sing.• Naru: Wow, it sounds good, when will

the concert start?• Garu: It will start at 5: 00 pm. Do you

want to come with me?• Naru: No, I will go to the cinema to

watch a movie.• Garu: Ok, see you later.• Naru: See you later my friend.
