A Midsummer Night’s Dream Character Pitch

Theseus

Theseus is the duke of Athens making him kingly and royal.

He is betrothed to the Queen of the Amazon; Hippolyta.

He can be described a heartless ruler as he gives Hermia three choices; to become a nun, to be executed, or to marry Demetrius.

Hermia

A young woman in love with young Nobleman Lysander.

Runs away with Lysander to marry him. Given three choices of living her life by

Theseus. Self-conscious about appearance. The envy of Helena for apprearance.

Lysander

Young Nobleman in love with Hermia. Plans to run away to marry Hermia. Drugged by Puck with love potion,

causing him to fall in love with Helena. Fight with Demetrius over Hermia.

Philostrate

Master at the Revels at Theseus’s court also known as Theseus’ party planner.

A rebellious character who speaks his mind to the Duke regardless of known consequences.

Does not want Mechanical’s play in honor of Theseus’ wedding.

Helena

In love with young Nobleman Demetrius.

Very self conscious about her “prettiness” because Demetrius loves Hermia.

Ends up marrying Demetrius because of Puck’s love potion.

Puck

Oberon’s jester and attendant. Turns Nick Bottom’s head into an asses

head. A jokester who drugs Demetrius and

Lysander with a love potion. His tricks vary on his mood.

Nick Bottom

He is a weaver who plays Pyramus in the play within the play ‘Pyramus and Thisbe’.

Very arrogant and over-confident who thinks he can act in every role.

Puck turns his head into an ass’. Happens to be a TERRIBLE actor.

Theseus – Daniel Day Lewis

He would fit well because he has played kingly roles; such as Lincoln. He is experienced withage and would make aresponsible and heroiccharacter.

Hermia – Anne Hathaway

She has played many romance/serious like Les Miserables. She fits the physical role of a young brunette.

Lysander – Leonardo DiCaprio

He has played manyromance movies such as Titanic and Romeo and Juliet. He is very experienced in playingroles of romancemovies.

Philostrate – Morgan Freeman

Freeman has played in rebellious films like Shawshank Redemption. He is wise in his moviesand he knows when something doesn't quite match.

Helena – Kate Hudson

She has played in romance movies like How to lose a guy in 10days. She has filmed with Anne Hathaway and fits the role of a blondegirl in love.

Puck – Johnny Depp

He has played as clown type characters before likein Alice In Wonderland. Depp can play sort ofawkward mischievous characters so he can portray a pranker like Puck.

Nick Bottom – Sasha Baron Cohen

Sasha has played arrogant characters like he did in the Dictator. He is an overwhelmingcharacter like NickBottom who would suithis role quite well.
